WoW, just WoW the OP obviously has no idea what capitalism or socialism are. Guess public education has gotten a lot worse in the last 20 some years. Seriously just saying Kickstarter is in anyway shape or form like socialism is moronic.

Been said numerous times : It's all about who's in charge.

The country where it comes from and its politic got nothing to do with the final result.

Of course in a socialist state you might find more room for creativity and less stress because of finacial matters... but that doesn't mean nothing good can come out of a capitalist crew... Capitalism isn't the most humanist economic system but it doesn't destroy creativity at all... creativity and results matter even more there BECAUSE of the financial matters.

I usually love to bash on capitalism for obvious reasons, but nah, can't blame them for what MMOs turned into. I blame the lack of education of the actual and last gamer generations for being sheeps... or should I say : cows... but I can understand, even I been tricked a fiew times... ( I will keep SWTOR in my sig for ever, just to remember).

"blame"? The market has no obligation to produce what you like.

It works just fine for me.

Man you're being kind today. I would have gone straight for "the lack of education" and "sheeps." I can be a petty grammar nazi like that when someone totally screws up his point about the uneducated masses.

Socialism sounds great on paper until you realize that it's human nature that screws it all up.  The problem with crowd developed games is that sooner or later one loud voice is going to take over and start to unduly influence the games direction.  If it's not the company that created the concept and put forth the money to make it work it will be someone else.

CU is the same way.  Do you really believe that just because you paid up front for this game that your input is going to have more weight than one of the primary creators, developers or inside funders?

Games designed by the public = Second Life

I'll take professional, developer created content instead thank you!

I don't know, I'm not one to think that publishers and corporate $$ is to blame for all of the MMO headaches of the past 8 years.

There have been some good games and great times/good gameplay mixed in there too, don't get me wrong.

A lot of the problems we see or think we see is really just experience bias, we've aged, and we really don't know what we want.

You could hand me UO2 with modern 3D graphics and probably have a 50/50 shot I wouldn't enjoy it one bit, despite how much I loved it back in the day.

    That's just life.

I'm looking for new experiences, not rehashes. That's the big issue IMO - too little true innovation and originality, and the few times I've seen something new/different it's TOO new/different to stick with me.

F'd if you do, f'd if you don't.

Socialism works great... until you run out of other people's money.

Oh, and Kickstarter is an example of capitalism, not socialism. Try to learn what things mean before going on a half-assed rant about them, eh?

    Kids these days.

It's a sad day indeed when a family is too afraid of reprisals to publicly thank somebody for saving their lives.

There are so VERY many things wrong with OP, that one doesn't even know where to start.  I'm not going to bother, as any effort I put into this would just get deleted, as this thread no doubt will.

I think the thrust of his thought was that they are community funded and include community input therefore there is a level of social accountability.

Granted "Socialism" was the wrong word but I think a step back reveals that he was thinking of the "society" or group that spear heads the initiative for the good of all involved.

Back up a step.  When using Kickstarter how does one recoup their money after the goal has been met if they don't like the direction the game is taking?  Also, what obligation do the creators have to listen to the suggestions of any of their donors?

    I don't see "accountability" there.

Kickstarter is an example of Socialism? I don't think so.
