Just starting AoW.

After waiting on Darkfall: UW, and ultimately deciding not to purchase the game due to all the negativity surrounding it, I've decided to download Wushu.

I'm really interested in crafting and making a profit, and it seems like AoW offers quite a bit outside of the combat aspect.

It being free to play, is there anything that really gimps a totally free player or slows my progression through the game, that I should purchase? (Remembering Allods cash shop and EQ2 f2p)  could only get so far without eventually spending money.

XP turns into Cultivation points, which levels your skills. A free player will have about 20%, or so of their cultivation. Free players  also earn less for kidnapping. Tthey can not use the offline shop function aswell.

Other than those things the game is wide open to free players. I would recommend paying the 9$ for VIP in the beginning atleast. It does make life a little easier.

AoW is a tough game with a very long progression arch. The little things add up.

Bit late to the party but...

Is you buy the box at Gamestop it saves you a ton of hassle downloading (Corrupted files) you also get 2 months of game time and enough game currency to buy a 3rd month if you like.

As a "vip" player I leveled my meridians 4 times in 2 hours. As a free player, it's been two days and 0 levels. Also you level while logged out as a "vip"

It's a massive massive difference all for about 5 bucks a month.

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
