Thats comming to an end, with so many good games that are free to play, less and less people will play a game that is sub only... they will just not start it..

But whenever a hybrid game catches a free player, it will be easier to lure them into a subscription.

Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)

Ehh? what about games like WOW and EVE? monthly sub surely didn't help to keep them away.

I have no idea when this 'myth' about people being suddenly nice and gentlemen only because they got 15 bucks in their pockets got popular.

There are many people who turn into assholes because they paid for something and now they're entitled.

    Sooooo... which is it?

There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein

    Exactly. It is about  competition.

If i can have the same amount of fun without the hassle of paying for a sub, why wouldn't i ever be bothered with a sub?

but if all games require some sort of purchase to play how can I dance ontop of a dead whale's body after i jump him with a 5 man party of ppl who never bought anything ?

if all games were b2p, the whole mmo bussines would suffer... badly

    why u ask ?

-Becausemost people act in f2p games like they would in malls(it serves my metaphor, not to be taken literarly) ... if some1 asked u for 15$(just an example) just to enter a mall u would think twice be4 entering one, fuck that.. 15$ just to get in, I might even not like it, might not find smthin I need , might run into some assholes who'll ruin ur evening, the air conditioning might not be on, might be a sh1tty mall and I just payed 15$ to get in, u'd think hard if it has the stores u need, if u really need to buy anything, . Now with the current system, you are not obligated to pay anything, you can come and go as u please in theory however... when u get there u have to park, you're going with friends so you're gonna want to sit down and get some coffee, you're browsing the stores and u find something u like, u want some food so u sit down and grab something to eat, you see a bookstore and u remember that movie u saw that time that was based on that book so u go in and take a look for the heck of it etc.etc..

In theory games might be free but once inside there are little commodities, even necessities in some cases, you need to purchase if u wanna enjoy it, but if they made it official most people would think twice if they'd pay 15$ to play it. And ofcourse this leads to companies being rewarded for half assing things or sloppy work all under the excuse that it's free and they have, if u look at that big ass game list. Every single one of those games is being kept alive by people paying one way or another no matter how retarded the game may seem, if they were forced to pay for it people would think twice be4 dumping money into games once they see what else if being offered for the same buck.

B2P with a non P2W cash shop may be the only answer to give MMO's the future funding they need and true to any concept of fair play. How many B2P MMO's have launched this year? That's why I am not convinced this will be the solution as yet.
