western market is really whiney and with a very casual mindset and it can be the best game ever, but the wow generation won't accept and play it.

    So very wrong.

Koreans like their easy MMOs. True Western gamers like the hardcore games.

Lets not get into who the real gamers are...

Fact is that there are huge numbers of western casuals.

And the "True Western Gamers" are a minority. Hardcore gamers, anywhere, are always the minority. Unless its a guild of hardcore gamers.

Casual is an easy sell. If you know that you have to play 5 hours a day to make progress, you will think twice before even starting.

A good game would allow casuals to come in and play for 30 minutes or an hour and still get stuff done and once in a while they would have to put in a bit more to deal with major raids. (Not 5 or 10 minutes). And still allow the hardcore crowd to grind away for hours to be the best.

Well, people here also still think Archeage is the messiah, where it is utter crap. It looked good, but its crap. No one can judge games by pictures.

That's absolute bullshit. Hardcore, punishing, timesink features have been lost in western games for already 10+ years. "hardcore" market has been dead for us a long time already, even all the asian games that get brought to NA/EU have been dumbed down to appeal to the western crybabies. I don't know maybe playing in trash gold leagues and 5 hours a day with zero punishment in failure is hardcore for you, but not for me. Even all the single player games have been dumbed down in terms of difficulty, hard modes are now old easy/normal modes and so forth and so forth. Asian market consists of massive casual playerbase, but they are fine with hardcore elements. Western market sees something punishing and leaves the game forever. Western playerbase is a joke, especially NA.

The landscapes in the trailers look nice.

Is it only me however, who cracked up when they showed the characters, with their heads and gazes following the camera panning around them? I thought it looked completely... Disjointed. Like the heads didn't fit at all on the bodies, or even in the games graphical style.

Saying you don't like asian MMOs isn't racist you dimwit. Asians have different esthetics than we do, their games play differently than ours and are often very cash shop intensive, that is all.

You say as if being casual and not spending 12 hours in front of computers playing hardcore is a bad thing... image

Didn't know being 'hardcore' was some badge of honor that people carry around proudly.

er, well, look, I'm a fan of this game from the "limited information" we have but I can't imagine anyone who is reasonable or who even puts any thought into it, assuming that this game will be #1.

Pretty graphics and a laundry list of features is one thing but implementation, the actual feel of game play, is another.

Every game has a laundry list of features and one can track those same features from game to game but obviously not every game is great.

look at a game you dislike and make a list of the features that game advertises. The tell me if they were successful.

Not sure about negative hype since hardly any info has been covered on mmorpg.com.

However I am highly interested in this title and would like to know more about it.

I was really impressed with Archeage, but it had things that just didn't fit to me, gliders could grow on me but steam cars well its just heading off the rails there :) Black Desert looks like it may have less of that type of thing, so far anyway. Action combat seems to be the in thing and could be made to work ok. For now there not much to go on, but I see no reason to negative hype something just becuase you don't know enough :/

As for what constitutes a sandbox, well all i know is I don't like sitting in a theme park hub posting LFG every 5 mins, only to get a grp that bails at the first sign of difficulty :) I look back on what I have enjoyed in MMO's and Seamless worlds with open expanses of world to explore and find quests is far more appealing, leading to challenging grp and raid content in more open world scenario's. Having complementary instance raid dungeons is ok, but grp dungeon crawls were more fun than grp instances imo. Vanguard was probably the most fun game I have played, but i do like good graphics and amination to boot. Well skilled classes with unique abilites are also more enjoyable than the classless cookie cutter builds frequenting most modern games.

As for hardcore, bring back death xp penalties and get rid of this token system that everybody uses. Todays games just grind to max level, grind tokens and your done. No incentive to have any fun lol and crafting is next to useless.

I don't theink any game is going to be what anybody wants entirely, but I have to say the koreans are doing a better job at it right now, only Everquest Next on the horizen from the NA market and look how much thats hyped and theres nothing really known about it lol.

Guess that's why so many people hate TESO...that game is filled with it from its head designer right down to is fanboys...the few that are remaining.

I'm not being funny or nothin', but I seriously think it just comes down to racism.  And after reading all the comments in this thread, I certainly haven't changed my mind.

I really do not see what other people see when they say "Asian design" and "Asian combat".  To me, I don't see that. Not in this particular game, anyway. It looks very much of western influence, and the occasional Asian aspect added for good measure.  Remember even Vanguard had ninjas and shit, and asian-style buildings, and they were not well-integrated into the design, unlike Black Desert, where they seem to fit seamlessly.

I really just don't see where people are coming from when they say things like Asian combat and Asian design, purely because to me I feel like they  must just mean non-disfigured.  Name one western game where the characters aren't deformed-looking & animated badly.

Moreover, In basically every mainstream & high-fantasy MMO, there are excesses made by the developers in terms of abilities and such.  So when people say it looks ridiculous to have such over-the-top abilities in an MMO like this, then I ask only that you assess every other MMO in the same way.  Because it's surely racist to assume it's "Asian" when Black Desert does exactly what every other MMO basically does, only with better animations and character models.

To me, games like Guild Wars 2 just look like shit, and I can't stand to look at The Secret World for more than 3 seconds without noticing how deformed everything is.  Black Desert looks like what Lord of The Rings Online would have looked like if the developers weren't talentless.

I guess it's all just a matter of perception.

the only asian-style-game thing i see here so far is the white guy's hair style.

i don't see squared swords with the size of a house, i don't see male characters wearing make up, i don't see a blast of pink blinding light on every hit, and yellow stars flying during combat, i don't see purple and green-haired lolitas running with straight arms behind their backs, making chicken sounds.. so no, this game is not a typical asian-style of a game.

but the people here that are accusing others in racism are potetic hypocrites, you know it - so shut up and let people discus anyway they want, douchebags....
