Space is bent like bundle of silk. On this plane are we, with our three dimensions, with out castles and wenches and all that is real. On the other layer, on top, next to, but immeasurably far in distance are the Emissaries, their dwellings and what is real to them. Between us and them, something exists, someone, a being without description, without emotion but it has a soul. It is the Veil, and its alive.

I am a ValeWalker and I study the Veil, why it got angered and why it broke loose, and what it brought it with to our world. I have learned the summons that allow me to enter the Veil. Veil is not a place, it does not bend to the rules three dimensions nor does it move in linear time. There is gravity, but the meaning of downwards is not static. There is air, but it is not always breathable. There is light, but it's source are not the what you would expect. And there are othere there, beings, terrifying beings.

To survive the Veil, I need a vial. I do not know where these Vials come from, or how they came to be, they simply are and I have to find one. I have found mine from the grave of Muir where old zombies have found rest in caskets. I know of another vial, it is deep in Tepok where goblins hold their realm, but it is far beyond my reach. The vial to be of any use, must be filled with blood. I have found that any humanoid blood will do, for some reason lesser animals will not suffice. I believe this is because Veil smells humanoids, and in Veil, smells glow and guide.

There are many ways to enter the Veil it seems, but I have only been able to learn one. I was sneaking around the viking base camp, and I saw an Emissary coming out of the Veil and talk to the lord of the house. I could not hear what they were conversing, but I could see how the Emissary casted a red sigil on the ground, and a blue above his head. A tunnel of what could only be described as smokey glass pipe emerged between the sigils, with mists whirling and moving upwards inside , and the Emissary disappeared tho the mist. I learned to how to draw the sigils, and I made my first entrance to the Veil not two weeks ago.

First, I moved in the Veil unobstructed and untouched. The vial acted as my lantern, it glows a bright light in the otherwise hollow emptiness. I could see through the mist to our world, but the vision was blurred and as if from long distance. In the begining I could not see anyone else, even in places I knew were crowded, but I learned. By concentrating on our world, I could glimpse, a peek, a momentary vision of the colors and people around me, but I could not keep that vision for long. The first time I spent hours in the Veil, going to all the places I was not allowed to go, even if only to see the walls. I panicked when I attempted to leave, before I understood that I had to turn the sigils upside down for the spell to work, I did, and appeared in the maiden's bedroom. Luckily, I was alone, and the window was open.

Then came the nightmares. They were shadows at first, thin avatars that my lantern's light could not get through. But they grew in substance, and in numbers, and in hunger. They ate the glow from the Vial, it is the only way I can describe it. They attacked the light, ate it, grew as the light dissipated. They started to nudge me, so that I would spill the blood from the vial. Eventually they attacked in unision, from every directions, like crows on a carcass. They managed to spill the blood, and I was in the darkness alone with them. I hurried to cast my exit, but they pushed me so I couldn't concentrate, but I managed to escape.

I had a smith to prepare a shield shiny as a mirror and I carried my beloved butterfly blade. With these, I could reflect the light from the vial and deter the shadows creatures. It held, for a while, until a new hinderance grew upon me. This time, I realized it was from within. As the blood in the vial did glow, so did the blood within my veins. After a long wander in the Veil, it started as a feeling of instant, unbearable itch in my leg. I looked down and saw my leg changing into something that had scales, something odd, and from the edge of the change I saw my blood boil out from my body, glowing like molten gold. Something had slipped through my shield and entered my body and it attempted to eat me from within, turning me into something else. I hurried to cast my exit, and I got out. The leg was okay, but the border which had been bleeding appeared as roughly cut wound. What is this new creature inside? I have not found an answer, but they seem to find you when the shadow creatures can't get through the light of the vial.

On fith visit, I saw other humans there. I could see their vial, and I could see their bodies glowing. This is how I must appear to the shadowy creatures. I hid in behind a wall, covered my vial and turned the shield towards ground. The other one was a hunched figure, only letting small stream of light from the vial, rapidly dashing through the hallways. In the end of the hallway, in amazement I saw him dash through a closed door. I learned this might be possible to me too, but even if I tried, I could not find a way. Nearly broke my nose though while practicing. I left at the first feeling of burning, this time in my hand, I wish not to end up into a meal of what I now call the transformation creature.

Today I was in warzones. I sneaked near a gatehouse in the shadows of the forest. I wanted to try if Veil can be used in combat. I casted my entrance sigils, and found that the shadow creatures were nowhere to be seen. Veil was darker though, as if it was intensified at the area of recent conflict. My view distance was diminished, but I dared it to walk to the gatehouse, to second floor room, where the floor holes for rock throwers were. Then I saw them coming, at first it was as if I would see someone else in the Veil, but this one was way too bright and it was in the midst of blur that I had not seen before. It came from the direction of the Viking's land, and it was glowing like a small sun. As it got closer, I could see its armor but not its face, and it appeared to carry no vial of any sort. It was clearly a cleric of the Viking sort, ugly faced barbar, there could be no doubt. But it was glowing through the mists of veil, and in his light I could see others of his tribe, those who were not in the Veil. There was four of them in total, and they swarmed the gatehouse but they could not see me. I hide in the corner, waiting for my moment, I wanted to punch my butterfly blade into one of their back. The wait was exhiliriating, until the shadow creatures came, oh and did they come in numbers. In the corner of my eye I saw the cleric staring upwards, shouting something, as if calling the shadows. Balrogs, I had to move fast. Showing the creatures away with my shield I ran out to the wall, and my vial hit the ruggest stones falling empty. Luckily it could not drop anymore, as I had it tied from its end to my belt, but now I was without light. Without other light than the cleric, shining like a beacon, staring straight at me from the ground behind the wall, he could see me! I was few meters from the closest Viking, behind him, seeing only his cloak, I casted my exit sigils and jumped on his back.

He heard me coming and dodged left, I turned around and threw my shield to his face to stun him and drew my second blade. This guy was barely shaken, damned Vikings and their determination, damn them to hell. He swinged at me, I dodged, striked back only to hit his armor. He takes a long step and is about to slam me with his shield, but I saw it coming. I jump aside and perforate his hair covered femoral artery. He falls on his knees, and I'm about to dig his neck with my other blade, when I hear it coming. Some skirt wearing mage had come through the gatehouse door looking like he was in completely wrong kind of party, but he had casted a timewrap that had stop all my movement. I could only move my eyes, barely enough to see the shady figure next to this dancerboy throw his black cloak around him. In the cloak I saw the sigils that I used to enter the Veil, he's were in the cloak! He used a cloak to enter the Veil, what an idea! He disappeared, and I started to regain some movement, but as I thought I was free to hit the Viking, from the clerics direction I saw a large form of darkness coming towards, darkness with faces, shrieking birds and horrors. It hit me, and violently casted me into the Veil.

Disorientated I stood up in the Veil, struggling to my bottle of Goblins blood to fill my Vial. Immediately I saw him there, the shady figure standing at the doorway of the gatehouse. He was staring, waiting for me to get up. He was smiling, holding his Veil Shield loosely at his hand. The shield was glowing its own light! It was smeared in blood, this one did not need a Vial anymore, he had blood everywhere and it wasn't his own. He approached me, took me from my throat and lifted me up. Together he dashed us up and outwards from the wall. He was floating, as he simply disagreed with the gravity. He smiled, yellow teeth, and let me fall to the darkness.

Last thing I saw, was he holding my Vial in his hand, and dagger that had cut the rope that held it.

Hey, pass me what you're smoking.  :)

No, sincerely, that was nice work.  Very vivid.  I could easily see the Veil as sentient being.  Loved the Nightmares and the player metamorphosis.
