Confirmation AV can detect and ban 'hidden' hacks

GreymoorGreymoor Member UncommonPosts: 802

The leader of a well respected clan in the game forwards the post of a recently banned member. Providing direct evidence that these so called 'hidden' or 'undetectable' hacks are detected and banned for now.

As you can probably see on the DF Forums I have been banned for cheating. It is a genuine ban, I'm actually quite glad in a way that AV seem to have the capacity to catch things.

The cheat I was using was a Radar Hack, I'm not going to name it because I don't want any other Lux members to get banned.

Why did I do it? Dunno really....I was just web browsing Darkfall sites and saw a mention in a forum of the Radar Hack and who made it. I had a look and purchased it...just used it sparingly while out harvesting nodes to be honest with you. I have had it for less than a week and got banned, so I bring this on myself - my account and character is gone, but more importantly so is my reputation with a great gaming community (Lux). Add to that the fact that Lux have been tarnished and I look back with disappointment on my stupid decision to cheat.

The obvious next step is for me to leave Lux. I have been onto Mumble within an hour of finding out and apologised to the leaders who were online at the time. I won't post on the DF Forums at all as I don't want to make Lux look any worse. I suggested that someone with leadership from LUx post that they have spoken to me, I have admitted cheating and left Lux - and that this in no-way is a common thing within Lux.

Once again my apologies, I will drop by Mumble later to speak with you directly Maejohl.

    B.H"

I have now taken steps to ban him permanently from Lux Arcana Darkfall Division, and have asked the Lux Arcana Community Council to ban him permanently from all current and future Lux Arcana games.

I have not heard from Neno Sunbow (who is a new member to Lux Arcana in DF:UW) about why he was banned, but I have also now removed him from Lux Arcana Darkfall Division membership and have also applied to Council for him to be permanently banned from our gaming community.

As most of you will know, I have worked hard in the years that Lux has been in Darkfall to make a name for ourselves as being a clan that plays honourably and does not accept cheaters amongst its ranks. I will continue to work hard at ensuring as far as I possibly can that this is how all Lux members (and recruits) behave.

On behalf of the rest of Lux Arcana, I apologise for the unacceptable actions of these two members.  "
I'm extremely happy AV are capable of shutting down these types of activites.

Ban a few, and theres still more that exist working just fine. Unfortunately, if you leave loop holes, hacks will exist to fill those and its very difficult to catch them all.

That being said, from the sounds of what was posted, it kind of sounds like a case of "Derp derp, let me use a hack and not rename the exe so its super easy to catch!" kind of slip up.

Indeed good news that a developer takes decisive action against cheating. I'm actually more surprised about the apology of the person banned. Such acceptance of responsibility and admission of guilt is rare in online gaming. The usual response to being caught cheating in an MMO is to go to the forums and post that one was banned for no reason at all....

A man is his own easiest dupe, for what he wishes to be true he generally believes to be true...
