I think you're probably quite close to the truth but I don't think Wildstar will be the game to watch, EQNext is what I'm pegging my hopes on for a future blockbuster.

Have to agree, EQNext is what many of us are looking forward to.  Hoping that SOE can again become a leader in the genre.

I think that Blizzard had another themepark and they realized it was dated even before release.

Hope the chanting works, cuz Bliz got no one left to crib ideas from.

I am not surprised. New consoles are coming out and technology has come a long way from 2007, especially game engines and related technology. The same happened with Diablo 3, remember.

Like I already said in another topic about this:

When you go back to the drawing Board, all you need is the Director/Producer, the designers and some (concept) artists and maybe a handful of devs to do some POC coding.

This redesign process can take up to a year. A huge Waste of Money and Resources to keep 70% of the staff fidling their thumbs for months up to a year, while they could be put to good use in other Projects in the meantime.

And seeing how WoW now is on it's decline for real and by the looks of it losing a couple million subs a year as continuing trend.

They most likely came to the conclusion that WoW 2.0 might now be a serious option. And in 2016 (which can, as others have said, easily end up being 2017 or 2018 instead With delays) WoW will be over 12 years old and most likely have fallen Down to just a million+ subs.

So then it would be a Perfect time to release a brand new WoW 2.0, with improved Graphics and New/improved and more modern gameplay to get all those people back again.

And you can bet that there will be millions of People in line again to buy WoW 2.0. As if Blizzard is good at something, then it's sure as hell in excellent marketing!

I suspect Blizzard looked at what they had in Titan, and thought, 'This is going to burn to the ground and sink into the swamp afterward'.

Better to have a mysterious title on the far horizon than a disaster or a lackluster disappointment.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

Looks like titan will be competing with WOD...I know someone who bought Blizzcon tickets on the chance that Titan would be teased, oh well.  Maybe it's for the best if they have decided to reboot some of the technology.

The only reason I was going to go to Blizzcon was for info on Titan.... I like how they waited to announce this.... Oh well I got two Blizzcon tickets for sale.

I doubt the project will ever be finished because, as stated earlier, who knows the state of MMO's in 2016...

It would be similar to releasing a game like AoC or EQ next to game's of today's standards, such as TESO and WildStar.

The project will never be completed. The End.

Total Vaporware; in fact I DOUBT they ever had anything in mind.  It was just a carrot and a stick.  You have to keep people believing in something.

And if they truly did have something in development hell THIS long, it would need a total makeover cuz it would be completely outdated at this point.  How long ago was it announced now?  Like 5 years ago?  At least?

I hate to say it but Blizz has gotten so full of themselves as of late they don't have a clue how to make a decent game anymore.

Like to read all those comments in this thread, no trolls or flamers detected so far !!!

WoW 2.0 never gonne happen, they ruined most of the lore milked it out and damaged the IP with to much stuff to name.
A new wow means they ahve to copy paste all of that stuff into a new engine and expand it even more then it is.

The only way to make WoW 2.0 work would be a total destruction off all azeroth and all races gone and set a new story from then onwards.
That for me would be the only interesting way and gets me back to WoW.
But i prolly will not ever happen.

Now they said they were working on a brand new IP....and they just sweeped it clean and start over.
After so many years and effort ?
I know they have the finance for it to do this a couple of times, but with such amount of talent you would have expected a solid form or shape to make this happen easely right ?

Iam just baffled with this news, the whole world was waiting for this new Titan, and then poof /deleted

Wildstar / FF XIV ARR / WoD / EQN should work overtime now to release a solid product, WoW players are quiting in the thousands each month.
I think most WoW players aint going to play WoW with its dated engine and low polygon characters for much longer, maybe 1 or 2 more Xpacs at most before they dip into a normal playing field like other mmo's.

Either way, Blizzard might have lost more then they wished for with the failure of delivery of Titan.

Blizzard could sell vapourware to their fanbois. It also won't be an original IP, when do blizzard ever do something original? It will be one of their existing IP's.  It will more than likely be starcraft.

I can just imagine the Blizzard devs playing through Titan and finally realizing that the Theme Park is dead.

All the better for FFXIV's release in August, woot :)

I think the most important bit of info in all of this is that ~70 developers are being pulled off of Titan and re-assigned to other Blizzard projects. Hopefully this means some much needed love for World of Warcraft and Diablo III.
  • expressoexpresso Member UncommonPosts: 2,218

I can wait.  - But yet again blizzard damned if they do damned it they don't.

  • IllyssiaIllyssia Member UncommonPosts: 1,507
It means they are looking at the next gen consoles and probably the PS4, as that is where they are putting out product for Diablo 3. Reality is we are talking more WoW expansions, and a move there away from the gear treadmill, and towards more content to try and keep players. SCII has another expansion coming, DiabloIII will have more expansions. And then there is the other smaller sports gaming stuff they do. Titam in 2016. Sounds about right, it is when they will be ready to move on from WoW.

I like Blizzard, but man it's crazy how much money this company wastes. I mean those 100 people have been working for a few years and it sounds like they are throwing out the majority of that work. What really gets me is this decision was based on what? They have released zero information so there is zero community/consumer feedback at all. It seems to me that it is in a company's best interest to at least drop a little information along the way to get a feel whether any one will even want this thing when it's done. I've never run a game company though, so what do I know?

I guess the only good news is they mentioned a technology reset so maybe they are switching to a shiny graphics engine, etc. The problem is by the time they are finished no one will care.

Not holding my breath on this one.

  • FusionFusion Member UncommonPosts: 1,398

They've just realized that they've been making the game too much of a WoW-clone and only now are starting to realize that it isn't what people want, so they have to go back on the drawing board.

That's what my time-machine told me.

http://neocron-game.com/ - now totally F2P no cash-shops or micro transactions at all.
  • expressoexpresso Member UncommonPosts: 2,218

I suspect blizzard internal play team just said "this ain't fun" so blizzard said fine back the drawing board, if only more dev's did this.

    • Ghosts
    • Warcraft Adventures
    • Starcraft (using WC2 engine)

All games more or less finished yet still scrapped cus they probably were not very good examples of their genre, good to know some devs have the integrity to do that rather then release crap-ware.

  • uller30uller30 Member UncommonPosts: 125
Hahah it's +3 years of wow and I crap we need to make a game um let say now Titan is 2020 whoot +4 more years of wow and Starcraft. Bliss you need to let the golden cow die. Ok where here to help you kill it off and start new you can do it. I hope the can get it done before 2016/20 as it seems to be as they "reposition assets"

Bet they pushed it back so they can milk more WoW.  Oh well it really looks super bleak for the mmo genre for the next 3 years anyway.

Blizzard's problem is obviously that currently there aren't any good titles on the market of which they can blatantly copy+paste features into Titan.

Remember that WoW was made of Eq/Eq2 and Blizzard has been living on SOE's ideas for so long, so they decided to wait it out until at least EQNext is released and gives Blizzard some material to further "develop" their own title.

Some pretty wild theories here. Use some logic people! Here's what happened:

Blizzard wanted to make a true blue Cthulhu mythos dark fantasy game.

What they didn't expect, though, was Cthulhu himself showing up! And demanding ownership! Or...

    ...or, you know, "else"...

Blizzard being Blizzard, of course they wouldn't give ownership to some old deity whose name they couldn't pronounce without spitting their mouthful of pie... so they said "jus eff dis!", and decided they could make a knock-off Cthulhu mythos instead, using the assets in hand. But...

    Cthulhu ate those assets!

You heard that right: Blizzard has gone back to the drawing board to start from scratch, because Cthulhu ate their game!

There you have it. No need to come up with some mad conspiracy theory.

I wonder what to make of the Titan delay. One can assume that Blizzard always kept an eye on the market, and what we see is, that WOW-type MMOs (pure themeparks) are just reaching the end of the road. I'd say TESO will probably be the last Triple A MMO of that sort. MMOs without any sandbox elements are just at the end of the line, as I see it. So Blizz maybe realized that one does not simply make a WOW clone. Even if you are Blizzard.

Still, it may leave an awfully long gap for them. I hardly think WOW will keep high subs for much longer. Once a serious downspiral accelerates, WOW may go down much, much faster than we think. And then they have a long gap between their games.

As annoying as it is to not even know what this game is yet, I appreciate the fact that Blizzard takes its time, instead of rushing out an unfinished product. *cough Warhammer Online cough*

Well Bungie will be happier now then :) , Destiny has a 2 year head start and isn't the second game pegged for around 2016 ? Then the third about 2 more years after that. I was going to look into Titan , just because it's supposedly a sci-fi MMO. We might even get a western release of PSO2 before Titan now lol.

Yeah I guess the door is open for ESO , Wildstar and EQNext. Not sure what the reason for most developers opting for the sandbox , off the back of what evidence ? Anyways maybe ESO will be one of the last themepark MMO's for the next few years , very weird. Let's hope all this sandbox obsession doesn't backfire.

    Cheers,

    BadOrb.

PSO 4 years , EQOA 4 months , PSU 7 years , SWTOR launch ongoing , PSO2 SEA launch ongoing , Destiny 360 launch ongoing.
