The industry is so fickle now, probably due to the wayward nature of players today... or is it because todays games cant retain the players.

The chicken most certainly comes before the egg... but then where does the chicken come from?

Yes, there were a handful of layoffs at Snail Games USA yesterday. After the launch of Age of Wushu the team size was corrected to meet the size of the game and the community. The Age of Wushu team was expanded before launch and the necessary contractions were needed post-launch. Snail Games USA values all the employees that worked on Age of Wushu and continue to work on the Age of Wushuupcoming expansion for July. Layoffs are a hard part of working in the game industry and are necessary when team size becomes larger than what the development team needs.

Thats like 5 people. Snail USA is a subsidiary that only had like 10 people that answered tickets and and who were ingame GMs. The GMs are cool, I wish those few good luck.

SnailGames has hundreds of employees though. Make no mistake SnailGames(in china) is in full control.

People who make these statements really have no clue how the industry works. The project is over and you move on to new things. In big companies like Blizzard who have multiple projects can reallocate resources. Those that don't layoff. It's the way its is, programmers expect it. and are used to it.

It makes no sense - their customer service is a hot mess....so they layoff people?

All mmos have layoffs a few months after release.

You don't need as bigger team for updates, expansions etc..

While true, in Snail USA's case, they really didn't have much of a team to begin with.

Last I checked, coders don't go about answering phones. Us programming types aren't always the most social creatures. :)
