Curious (and nothing against Steam as I use it frequently ) , but if I buy it through this deal is there a way to get the key/account setup so I could just launch it normally through the CCP launcher without Steam ?

No MMO purchased through Steam requires you launch from Steam. The keys are locked to a publishers game account which you will need to create.  Steam also doesn't want the hassle of individually vetting every single update MMOs get (sometime's daily) through their update process. Or dealing with the pissed off players because they can't log in to the game before Steam does so.

I has a question.

 

I created a trial back in 2009. That would be the account I would want to use. But I read somewhere about accounts made before Steam can't be linked to Steam?

 

Also, I made a trial today, before I saw the sale, and I got 50,000 skill point s on a new trial account I don't really want to use. Do you think my old trial account from 2009, if I bought today and set it up, would get these skill points?

 

Affects my choice to purchase.

Yah, in my eyes it is a clever marketing action, to get people to pay for the trial they could otherwise get for free, essentially. Clever still, because this way of presentation (extra bling) will appeal to a slightly different crowd than those who would just try the trial.
