Now it's just a matter of time until I come back a fanboy or a hater xD

and that's it too.  Not much middle ground going around for DFUW.

I encourage you to go out of the safe zone asap.  Put on some junk/mob loot gear.  Make a mount or two and go exploring, chaos chest hunting or killing noobs (It's not frowned upon when your a noob yourself.)  There is also a 400pp feat for opening up 100 map tiles.  Just get used to being out of the safe zone.  Get used to the blood pumping "Oh Shit, there are 20 guys on mounts."  Get used to the fear of realizing you just found something worthwhile, you are out in the middle of no where and your hearing things indicating people are close.  DF is by far the most emotion invoking game I have ever played.  Good and bad .....

Don't take getting killed personally, it's what people do in DF.  Even though you are neked it's standard practice to kill you.  You could be out treasure hunting with a map.  Only way to find out is to check your corpse.

Put on your thick skin and have some fun ........ good luck.

I then heard more about the kinds of systems the game had in place and decided to research further.  My idea of this game COMPLETELY changed after watching a few PvP videos and some huge boss fights still with the danger of PvP all around you. I think I kind of get what the whole idea of this game is now and honestly it's pretty refreshing.  However the $40 + $15 a month for a game that has such a gamble factor is severely holding me back.  I'd like to ask a few questions before deciding to purchase it.

1.)  Population?  This is definitely the most important thing I want to know,  without a stable player-base I feel like no matter how good the game itself or it's systems may be, it's useless if there aren't a large number of players to enjoy it with. This is a hard question to determine from videos, especially after seeing so much hate for the game.  Does it feel really populated or more deserted?  Does the amount of players seem to be increasing or decreasing?

2.)  Content/Things to Do?   In a sandbox game you should almost never be bored, whether content is there for you or not you should be able to basically create your own content and always be doing something, not just something but have a variety of things to choose from.  Is this so in DF:UH? Has anybody that's played  longer than a week  found themselves bored with the game?

3.)   PvP/Combat?   In the video these two things look AMAZING!!!!  Though I understand looks can be deceiving.  Can anybody tell me from first hand experience if it's really as fun as it looks?  Be detailed.

4.)  In your opinion how does this game stack up to other MMOs?  Compared to both themeparks and sandboxes is fine.

    Thanks in advanced!

DF is its own game...if you like hardcore pvp...gear loss, major political wars, aim to shoot pvp that takes true skill...DF is for you.  If you have problems with any of those things, or you need constant direction from npcs, etc...then its not for you.  Population is very good.

Another thing  ...... only spend your prowess points on roll neutral items until you figure things out.  Would be bad to dump many points into the warrior standard only to find out you prefer being a mage.  Do some research on what is best to spend on until you know for sure.

AV is supposed to be updating the classes on a remotely regular basis that will change them quite a bit.  (*cough) Hopefully AV will offer a PP reset in the future as well.  (*cough, *cough)

Actually, it wouldn't be a bad idea to stay around the safe zones until you complete your varments and creeps, just because it sucks to do them later. I hear you can get like 20k pp if you travel to every safe zone and kill all the mobs there.

Also, you might want to hotkey every skill to a key. Juggling between the radial menu's is hard, at least for me. It's much better just to hotkey everything.

Even if for whatever reason you can't be bothered to rely on others in an MMO crafting is STUPID EASY. Its not about defeding everything AV does (you are an idiot if you think that's what I'm doing), its about making an MMO and MMO.  And as far as the "you must be in a clan mentality" its a false one. I play pretty much by myself because I'm GMT +9. I haven't played "hardcore" yet due to real life (I play every day, but haven' focused on leveling) and I feel like I'm doing just fine without clan backing (even though I have some I don't use it because of my play time).  It seems to me that your maincomplaint is that it takes a crap load of time to be self sufficent, meaning crafting your own gear and leveling your character. That's one of the few things AV did right this time around.

Haha you totally missed what he was trying to say and focused on something completely different. He wasnt complaining about time needed to raise crafting skills or leveling his character. He's talking about the time to actually go out and harvest the materials needed to craft a set of gear for his warrior character. Even if he's taking the mats to someone else for crafting, the time needed to gather and craft a set of gear is the same. Hours of boring harvesting followed up by slow refining and slow crafting. Casual players can not keep up with this grind. Not unless they buy their mats off of an auction site for real money.

Go gather the mats needed for 3 sets of plate armor, 3 r30 polearms, 3 r30 shields, 3 r30 bows, and 3 r30 1h swords. Fraps the entire thing, and post the video. Lets see how long it takes you from start to finish and how much fun you have.

No you missed my point which was, if you don't like gathering then don't do it. Plenty of people are selling full sets off gear. Go but it from then if you don't have the time to collect the mats yourself.

So the grind shifted from mats to gold. How is that helping any?

I quit playing, so you shouldn't bother.

Free to play = content updates for the cash shop. Buy to play = content updates for the cash shop.
    Subscription = Actual content updates!

guild does not take a long time to acquire. Even if AV eventually nerfs t map b production gold would be easy to get. It sounds to me that you jusT want everything handed to you
