"This week, wuxia-themed Age of Wushu launched officially, turning loose a hardcore, Chinese-flavored, martial arts sandbox in the MMORPG space. Persistent-world junkies are hoping the game marks the first of the big-budget sandboxes aiming to revamp the genre in the next few years. What sandboxes are those? I'm glad you asked. Massively's Jef recently prepped a guide to the bigguns, including ArcheAge,EverQuest Next, and Star Citizen."

that's fine man. EVE is a hybrid too I guess. Minecraft is a "true" sandbox.
Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.
It is cool that sandbox features are creeping into more mainstream MMOs, but I don't think there's going to be some sort of sandbox renaissance. I think the closest we'll get are the hybrid games, or possibly a game that has two separate paths to play by, which would be fine with me.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Leaving aside silliness of the term "sandbox features", instanced, scheduled events is considered sandbox features these days?
There is no such thing as a Sandbox unless the dev gives the players the tools to make the content, other wise it is just more scripts and meaningless npc's,like every game out there.
That article just posted pretty much every game in the process of coming out, nothing intuitive put into that article what so ever.
Even the feature full Repop is meaningless until we see if the features have meaning or if players will ignore most of it.
Gaming really has become quite superficial, pvp types or loot chasing types.Imo Loot is the way to go,itemization if done right with lots of depth can really make or break a game, especially if every game is going to copy the same old template.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
