Well cant say I didnt see it it coming, we were a month away from the supposed release date with very little info on it, and no open beta for ACers.

Well I'm glad they are fixing it, The 2 months of no patches just got stretched alot which will hurt the game. May have to go buy guild wars to play along side AC :)

AC2:L was going to suck up more players no matter what. Well that is, completely new players. When some unsuspecting customer sees AC2 and AC1 on the shelf which do you think they would choose? AC"2", "It's newer so it must be better!" Plus the graphics are much prettier and that always gets new people.

I know the people at the gaming stop I frequent reguarly for my games and just to see whats going on. They have in the new AC 2 expansion and they said they can't sell them. No pre-orders, haven't sold a single one. I think the AC 1 expansion whenever it makes it out is going to get a similar response, but thats just me. Jaguar is right though about the games age effecting people's choice to get into it. its a very old game and I doubt you are gonna get much appeal for it as long as AC 2 is around.

It must be because of Turbine's massive advertising campaign ::::36:: Besides the couple ads in magazines, which I never saw anyway, what else has there been? Getting headlines on MMORPG.com doesn't cut it. Maybe they're just waiting for it to be released.

Its that very clever stealth advertising! I haven't seen anything other then some one pages in a gaming mag. The worst part is, I went to read about the expansion, I can't find anything anywhere explaining what the expansion is about and whats in it. They have no information published about it, do they really think the users at accmty.com are whats gonna breath life into AC again?

The community has been doing most of the work with regards to the marketing for the game for Legions.

    ^^

is where some of us beta testers get to talk about the game.

    ^^

beta tester video - which happens to be the best video of the expansion out.  You might want to watch it.

There has been some advertising in CGW/PC Gamer - interviews have been very standard about what they put in the game.. new weapons.. new races.. basically the only true preview was at warcry and from what us beta testers have stated.

There was one press event in San Francisco that I am aware of.  I don't know of Legions being on display at E3.

There have been no wallpapers and no videos released to gamespot and ign.

Advertising and promotions have picked up in the past week.  I am starting to see ac2L on a lot of webpages that I frequent.

My personal thoughts on the beta?

I think they designed it to satisfy Ac1 players actually.  I have a limited experience with ac1 but that's definately the impression that I have gotten from it.

The Good Nun of Darktide fame also testifies to that statement,

"My first impression of Knorr was that I just KNOW that they shanghai'd the AC1 design team or at least consulted heavily with them. I just couldn't get over how AC1-esque the landscape and dungeons are ... and that's high praise from me! It helped that we had no minimap! I pleaded with them to leave it that way or make it only available after completing the already included quest where you build a map of Knorr ... but no dice. The dungeons are tiered more like the good old days where the beasts get tougher the deeper you go. They are most impressive and I don't envy the cartopgraphers who'll be trying to map their twisty passages."

Thats not going to fix the falling population of AC1. I mean its nice and all that they are trying to take care of their paying subscribers but thats a recipe for failure. I just do not understand Turbine at all. Why is everything such a secret? Why even if I wanted to know about it, unable to get information about it from the company developing it?

Turbine most of all by now should know that appealing strictly to the official forum users is not how you make a successful game. Thats almost a closed community at that point of users.

All game populations eventually fall in time.  Tribes 2 is one of my favorite games but now people have moved onto different games because there are newer ones.

I guess I would advise joint billing on the part of Turbine to increase revenue on both of their games.

When your spending money on development for an expansion to a game, generally you want it to generate some NEW revenue and not just generate sales revenue from box sales. And since I am fairly sure AC 2 isn't generating profit at the moment I would think they would want AC 1 generating as much as possible. That just sounds like sensible business to me, perhaps I am missing something.

Is ac2 making money?  Turbine says it is, however I do not believe that.

If Turbine would shut down either ac1 or ac2 it would look very bad when DDO came out.  The expansion packs have resulted in monthly content being taken away from both games in order to get the box on the shelf and keep expansion costs as low as possible.

If turbine picks up some subscribers well yay for them and if they don't.. Well that is unfortunate.  I don't think ac1 or ac2 is in any jeopardy because of the position of Turbine right now as a developer with games on the horizon, but I think they want to get as much money as possible from them to cut back on losses.

Ac1 and Ac2 are very fun games, but they just don't appeal to the stereotypical "I've played this before and now I'm playing this again under a different name" crowd.

For game devlopers innovation is evil because all people want are more elves with pointy ears.
