I've played UO, SWG and AC. Those are the type of real sandbox gamers I'm looking forward to playing with. But I get the distinct feeling your version of true sandbox gamers played Shadowbane, MO and DF. That type of degenerate FFA combat eccentric , too lazy to work for it so I'd rather loot it, true sandbox gamer you're referring to really will never understand that combat is only one tool in the arsenal of a real sandbox gamer's skillset. So keep your true sandbox gamers with their limited mind sets and give me some real sandbox gamers who can do that and much, much more.

Don't mess this up. Sandbox games are NOT compatible with the "F2P" model. If you want to have an "infinitely free" server that has a level cap of like, the first 10hrs of gameplay with limited geography exploration (ie: only the noob center isle) then do that, and then offer free transfers to the real servers once someone decides to move off Free-To-Try, and move to Pay-To-Play.
ArcheAge will FAIL in the US & Europe if you force it F2P or B2P.
B2P could actually work as long as you don't become too greedy. Selling bankslots, extra character slots and fluff wouldn't hurt the game the least.
F2P alá EQ2 and TOR on the other hand would be a disaster. You cant sell actual advantages for real money in a PvP oriented game, it just kills the fun.

There is no level playing field, ever. People with more time currency will have an advantage. Why should cash shop advantages be excluded but massive time advantages be okay? I remember back in Lineage those with a lot of extra time had a clear and distinct advantage over those who didn't. There was no recourse for the latter, now there could be.
If the advantages sold in a sub-free game aren't direct combat advantages then shouldn't be a problem. XP and reputation boosters could be an advantage that doesn't directly tip the scales of advantage. Transportation (mounts) is another way they could monetize without a direct advantage as long as the mounts don't provide a direct offensive or defensive buff.
Some gamers can't stand the very thought of casuals having access to any kind of advantage, let alone anything that might make them competitive and without having to invest stupid amounts of time to get. If it wasn't about cash shops, it would be about casual content that is too easy and too quick to reward. If it isn't raid or pvp attained, it isn't legit. They always give some spiel about earning it, but only if you earn it the way they think everyone should, which of course is their way.

A Korean mmo with forced PVP having a sub? Do you remember why Aion had to go f2p? One of the reasons being that it had forced PVP in later levels. Trion is trying to target both PVErs and PVPers, the audience in the west that would willingly pay for both sides of the coin is much smaller than it may be in Korea. Let's add to the fact that it's a risky game all around with it's niche sanbox elements and it being a game created from a small Korean developer.
I'd rather them have some hybrid model than them having to announce going f2p 6 months later and everyone going on about how this game failed and such.
I can't go back to tab target combat. I understand that there are other things they wish to focus on to make the game more broad and they want the pace slow.

Yes the visuals are just horrible..lolhttp://youtu.be/1JpQMBtlddYIts HD rendering, its blatantly obvius. A pig with makeup is still a pig. Watch a proper vid that actually shows gameplay. With its dated visuals, clunky combat and overall uninteressting gameplay, this game makes Neverwinter actually look like a AAA-game.

Sieges are not instanced, they happen in the open world. When the siege timer goes open a 250 m2 invisible wall goes up around the castle, so only the defending 100 players and attacking 100 players can participate.
Other players can watch and hang out to see what is going on during the siege, other players can kill them if they interfere.

People whining about visuals, seriously? The game is highly detailed right down to the physics or small things, but I guess it looks too much like big bad anime. The visuals are fine, and the game looks faster than the usual Wow-like combat but I guess since it doesn't have the combat of a two year old game it's suddenly the devil lol.
Haters are gonna hate so just let them. These people have never played a real mmo where you are in a actual world with freedom to do what you want. ArcheAge looks great!

- A guild has to bid (in gold) for the right to attack a castle and it's surrounding lands. If there are 2 or more guilds wanting to attack a certain land, it goes to an auction and the highest bidder gets the right to attack that land.
- The sieges have timers that open once a week (on Saturday night), and they are open for 2 hours.
- Once a siege goes live only the attacking and defending guild can participate. A invisible wall goes up around the siege area. Other players can watch.
- The siege starts off as 70 vs 70. The defending guild can hire up to 30 mercenary real players to help with the defence.
- If the defending guild starts bringing in mercenaries, then after 20 mins into the battle the attacking guild can start brining in reinforcements from real players to help with the offence, up to 30 players. So the battle ends up as 100 vs 100, if enough players participate.
- If the attacking guild wins they can then lay claim to the land and can destroy anything on their new property to rebuild.
- If a guild successfully defends their land, they get special coins called "Coins of the Lord". They can use the coins to buy guild perks, and the leader can buy the "Emperor's gear" and a cool Fire horse mount. They also get double the taxes on their lands and resources. (This is put in place to make defending lands an incentive)

If I need this type of play, I'll go fire up Aion again or something. Thanks but no thanks.
Funny. This is EXACTLY what I've been waiting for. I cant stand action combat. Has no business in an MMORPG... but they havent been making those for years.
To the others who are hating on the game ... its obviously not made for you but please recognize there is an audience who wants to play this.
If you really think this is antiquated and out-dated go play GW2, TERA or whatever new shiny pretend-to-be-MMO that suits your fancy.

I had to laugh at the comment about wanting a new take on the mmorpg. This isn't new, it's old. I mean really old, like UO old. It's about time we got back to basics and what makes a great MMORPG. It's nice to see it finally happening.
With this and EQN it's just possible that the genre isn't completely without hope.

Yup. Looks good to me. There are plenty of choices for the people who like action combat. No reason for every game to be built that way.
Originally posted by aslan132 Been really trying to keep one eye on this title and the other on WildStar. It all sounds great, but I have a feeling there will be major changes for the version we get. Also the one thing I really want info on was touched in the article.
With all the building and sandbox goodness, when does it all start? I know in earlier version players were reporting you couldnt build anything until late in the game, and most of it is done on the Land of Origin, that third PVP only island/continent. If thats still true, its gonna be a huge hit against it in the NA. Players that was to build arent necessarily the same PVPers. Many will want to build and farm without any PVP at all. Hope thats been taken into account.
It's starts whenever you can get Delphi coins. Delphi coins are needed to buy the blueprints for houses or just about anything. To get Delphi Coins you need to go on a "Trade Route" and Trade your goods. It's dangerous if your low lvl because mobs or pirates can kill you and take your goods.
I have seen lvl 10 players able to get blueprints to build their houses, with the help of higher lvl guild mates helping out. The Key to ArcheAge is teamwork. Solo players are gonna have a tough time in this game.
There are roughly 2500 plots of land on the western continent, and 2500 plots of land on the eastern continent. If you build your house here they all will be in safe zones and you won't have to worry about having your house destroyed. These plots are first come first serve. You have to pay a hefty tax, depending on how big you build your house. If you can't pay a tax then the land goes to someone else.
There are thousands of little islands out in the ocean where you can claim land and build your house there. Other players can steal from you and kill you, but they can't burn your house down in these places.
The Land of Origin, if you build there, that place is lawless, and the land is owned by guilds. Usually you have to pay a tax to the guild to build on their lands. If a rival guild takes over the land via siege, then they can burn your house down.
Hearing that there are PvE areas makes me want to read up on the game in detail...just hope I don't end up seeing that the end game is in the PvP area and we will be pushed to it. If its all optional, ill end up PvPing more.
