I tried with an xbox controller. I actually enjoy it but you're at a disadvantage since you have to target everything with the d-pad rather than a mouse. That will slow you down especially if you're a healer. I'm not very high level so many someone who leveled higher can give a better insight on it. Also you obviously won't be able to chat without a keyboard so that's the other disadvantage.
Yea I have been using my PS3 gamepad and its one of the reasons why i love this game, only touch my keyboard for chatting. And I havent been having trouble targeting anything its pretty smart. I actually get the first hit on the enemy before anyone else does most of the time.
Ya I know, every mmo nowadays is gonna feel better on a controller...
It has been slowly going this way over the last couple of years, action actually means console.
And its how a proper final fantasy game should be played
I actually remember playing the first one that came over to north am, and I was so impressed. And I thought to myself I need more i/o's so I don't have to pause the game to choose skills... but whatever. I was just expressing the point that they don't make mmo's for pc anymore. Which is truly sad, all that wasted potential, just for a fatter wallet.
I love playing the game on a controller, but having to set the controller down so that I can type is a royal pain in the tuckus. I have the chatpad for my 360, but sadly it doesn't seem to work in windows unless I install drivers that cause Windows to bluescreen on startup.

was this an issue in FF11?
i never played it, but ve heard from some people you didnt use abilities as often (longer cooldowns?), so you had a little time between ability use to typr in chat.

Exactly how I felt about it.
Fighting did feel more fluid - but I went from being able to nearly instantly being able to pick up and change targets to fumbling several seconds to get a particular target if there were other critters/PC's around.
If they can get targeting better - even just a "Target nearest Enemy NPC" type function, it will be loads better.

I did not even know you can play this game with a Key Board and mouse hehe.
Ever since i plugged in my xbox controller i will never go back to Keyboard and Mouse for ff14.
