I figure the mmorpg crowd is just as good as any group to ask.  I kept up on computers but never really followed smart phones that well.

Currently I have motorola droid X and dislike many features of it.  My contract is up so I would like to upgrade.

Here are the things I currently dislike about my  phone which I would like to improve in a new phone:

  • Feels very slow and sluggish and times.  Takes forever to start up and overall does not feel very responsive, especially when typing and texting.
  • Camera (or maybe just the default app) sucks. Despite being 8 megapixels the pictures look like junk and it takes about 30 seconds between every picture to take a new one while it saves, processes, and you reselect the app to take another picture.  My friends iphone takes great pictures and he can do rapid clicking and take multiple photos within seconds using the default app. I dont understand why its so much better.

Things I do like on my current phone which I would like in a new phone:
  • Great screen, both in size and clarity.
  • Awesome batterly life.

Given my above likes and dislikes, anyone have a good recommendation? I would like to stick with Android though am carrier neutral.  Thanks.

The Windows Phones are by far and away the best phones on the market.  The only two downfalls of the phone is a small user base and you cannot access the file system stock.  With that you get a much smaller application selection.

The current Windows Phone makers are Nokia and HTC that typically have the best cameras on the market.  The OS itself is a lot faster than Java based Android and makes better use of resources.  Programs for Windows Phone are created in C#.  When compared to Android(Java) or iOS(Objective C) the C# implementation is easier to develop for and performs better.

The main problem right now is it looks like the Windows Phone 8 devices are due for a refresh so there is a small supply of Windows Phone 8 devices on the market.  There are no HTC 8X which are the current best Windows Phone 8 devices.  The only Nokia Phones I see is the entry level $149 phone which is not that impressive.

You'll probably need a 3310 for that mate. None of these smartphones these days have a great battery life, as far as I am aware anyway. What's your budget? I would just say go for the S4, great phone with great features.

We're all Geniuses. Most of us just don't know it.

You can also use a 3310 as your weapon of choice.  Just grab on to it and use it like a mace over peoples heads.

If you want something newer, you can go for a Nokia 206.  Its like the 3310 except its newer and has colors. Mine can go 2-3 days with no charge while listening to music maybe 5 hours a day and frequent calls and texts.  Warning : Like the 3310, it does not have 3g capabilities.

    hi

i have had a few smartphones, but my favorite  is my current one , which is the samsung s4.

battery life is good, voice commands are awesome, as i use voice  for texting, looking up directions finding playing music, whatever  i want..

the smart functions are amazing, swipe to answer, dimming when you look away from the phone, face recognition is great.

    and multitasking, oh ya baby.

of course the industry moves in leaps and bounds, but i think that this one is  a good choice , to own for a few years, but as i said it moves so fast, its crazy

good luck , remember once you make your choice dont look back :)

over 20 years of mmorpg's and counting...

Great info thanks. I'll research the s4.  I had not really thought about a windows phone.  I will try to see if my local store has a demo on i can check out.

Oh and btw I see that many carriers are promoting the HTC one also next to the s4.  These seem similiar to me in terms of features and ability.  Anyone have experience using both and what the differences are?  Thanks.
