I'm wondering too... Someone tweet the devs and ask maybe? :D

Or would they actually tell us, if there were some that saw and didn't like :)

I already Tweeted them This morning asking that very question. Waiting to see if I get a response :)

Yes. Bigger non-traditional outlets as well.  All under the same embargo until 8/2.  I've actually already written most of my article that's going up on 8/2.

Try to be excellent to everyone you meet. You never know what someone else has seen or endured.

its because they want to reveal it at their SOE live show and not at E3,it makes perfect sense to me. they want people to pay attention to SOE live and this will do it.
I totally understand that. But I cannot agree with these sites giving best of show to a game that wasn't even shown publicly. It's not the best of the show, it might be the best game they have seen but with show I would assume it's meant to be what was shown to the public.

that's fine you and others don't agree with it, its not a big deal to me at all and i don't know why it should be a big deal to anyone.

the most telling thing is the fact that more than one site was willing to give it their best of show vote when it wasn't even there publicly.

that doesn't mean its going to be this savior mmo but it is encouraging for the fans who are hopeful.

in just a little over a month we will not be in the dark anymore, we need to all be patient a little while longer, we can do it!

I would have to say without any screens or details .. this is just hype. How many times has this happened .. Lots of hype and then poof .. nothing. Show us something, prove the hype, or is it they got paid to build hype?

Sorry but all flash and no substance.

    /wink

The problem I have with that statement is that EQ1 and EQ2 weren't very close in similarity other than locations, races and classes.

EQ1 is what most of us want again.  Corpse runs, dependancy on others for travel, slow - meaningful leveling, dependancy on others and relationships to survive content.  Loot that is important and hard to aquire.  High risk and cost when you die.

EQ2 is basically just a themepark game with next to no risk, super easy.  Loot is shoveled your way, and you don't care much that you found an upgrade.  If you die, oh well, go kill 1 mob and get your exp back.  No risk, and all the rewards.  Still a fun game, don't get me wrong.  But it's nothing like EQ1.

So if they were "making the same game as EQ1 and EQ2", I don't understand what that means really.

I think alot of people are looking at this the wrong way. The things we want back from EQ1 are not Themepark features. They are world features. So in a sandbox version of Norrath. We could still get Corpse runs, dependancy on others for travel and survival, and meaningful leveling. Bill is saying that they were creating a themepark like EQ1 and EQ2, and they scrapped it in favor of Open Sandbox worlds and no coddling. The features we loved from both games can still be seen in EQNext. Now granted not all of them, but I'd say the ones that create community and challenge could most definitely return.

    What say you Bill?

Of course it's just hype for those that haven't seen it. What else could it be?

MMORPG.com's E3 Honorable Mention: EverQuest Next.  This game was fantastic!  However, since we can't share our experiences with you or offer any concrete details about why it's awesome, we can only award it an honorable mention.  Still, you will poop your pants when you see it, honest.

There, problem solved without pushing the concept of "Best of" Awards into a farcical exercise.

This approach would have been the most reasonable one.

I would like to see an offline system similar  to Age Of  Wushu without the kidnapping feature unless it's on a PVP server. A choice of 30 different activities/jobs while you are offline but your character stays on as an NPC.

Different location offer different jobs, so if you log off in Qeynos you have a choice of road sweeper, performer,  a shop helper, a musician or a soldier. If you log off at in Freeport you might end up being a security guard or on patrol or you might just run your stall.

This is awesome. Another site giving it "best of show". It is going to blow our minds. Well maybe not some of the bitter jaded folks spitting poison in this thread but everyone else will love it.

Which MMO should have received GotY over GW2?

EQ had open world PVP servers with different rule sets, as long as PVP doesn't become the main part of the game or take first place above PVE i don't think many of us vets care.

No mixed PVE-PVP servers, they want PVP then have servers dedicated  to that. If anyone is expecting Darkfall in Norrath i think they will be disappointed.

I'd say that's it's not very likely there'll be no pvp at all... so better drop that expectation!

Time to look for another game.  PvP will be a major factor in this game based on what Smed has been saying.

I guess this just goes to show devs/publishers... The best way to get "E3 Best of Show" is to not have a presence there :)

    - Al

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

Even if I don't take Smed's word, PvP will be an important part of this sandbox.  I really don't see what they do otherwise.  We can't be sure, but with tons of Eve comparisons the devs seem to make.  I would be shocked if PvP wasn't an important aspect.

This year’s Ten Ton Hammer Best of Show for E3 2012 Award goes to…

    Neverwinter

    Neverwinter
    (Cryptic)

Since first being shown last summer, Neverwinter has continued to evolve into something special. At risk of sounding hokey, this is the game that Cryptic Studios was always meant to make, and the developer has gone to great lengths to insure Neverwinter is the most compelling game it possibly can be.

The approach to more action oriented gameplay is spot on, and offers the most intuitive combat system our industry has seen in a very long time, if not ever. Combined with Cryptic’s excellent handling of the beloved Forgotten Realms setting and the promise of what the Foundry toolset will bring to the table, Neverwinter is packed full of awesome and we can’t wait until gamers can get their hands on it.

You do realize that E3 awards are for unfinished games with the most potential and aren't meant to predict the future? Not as if Ten Ton Hammer knew it was going to be a mess at launch.

I have to agree with Dudehog TTH is completely unreliable they are positive about every single thing and I don't recall a negative review from there ever.Their choices have for things like this I have never agreed with either.Same applies to Massively and to a lesser extent this site.

If they are not confident in showing their game, which is apparently in a playable state, at E3, to their potential consumers well I just can't be bothered. All previews have a history of being positive often without merit. After a situation like the Colonial Marines shit storm, this whole I know you've seen nothing of the game, but the game is game of show bs does nothing for me except push me away.

For me the game does not exist, there are no screens, no videos, no info, nothing.

You say you just can't be bothered with this sort of nonsense, but you seem pretty damn bothered.  You know not everything in the world is an attack on you personally right?

Does it make you even angrier that multiple sites gave best of show to Everquest Next?

MMORPG.com and Ten Ton Hammer came to the same conclusion independently. Why are there still naysayers?

We can't trust Smedley. We can't trust news sites. There's no real evidence that the stuff Georgeson is talking about will materialize. TRUST NO ONE. That's the vibe I'm getting from you people.

This is why it's a good thing the game will be on Playstation 4. So when all the jaded traditional MMO gamers head for the hills, the game will still be wildly successful on a console.

Once SOE LIve rolls around, it will be "I don't believe anything until it's in Beta" "Until I'm in Beta" "Until NDA is lifted" "Until Release" "Until X time has passed" "Until X population is reached" "Until first expansion is out" etc.

So fun watching people get bent out of shape not only over a GAME, but one that is still a "secret". Either you're excited, a hater/bitter, or just don't care, but it seems only one of the three should be part of a positive conversion about EQN at this stage.

How can a game take Best of Show if it wasn't even 'part of the Show'' at E3 ? TTH and MMORPG.com are special, not the good kind...

I don't care if the game is EPIC or the WORST MMO ever, it shouldn't get an award for something it wasn't even part of...

    This looks like paid propaganda...

You know what they say about someone who thinks everyone is wrong? (((grin))) Here is the facts! We know very little other then this. What SoE claims to be making. They say they are shooting for something as ground breaking as when EQ1 hit the market. That game made MMOs what they are today, so they are shooting for the stars =) Did they hit them? No clue. But that is a good place to aim as we all know falling short of the star can often lead to a huge success.

What else do we know? They have gotten 2 best of shows from people who we hang on their every word to learn about up coming games. They think SoE has something, should we trust them? Everything with a grain of salt but that being said. If you read enough reviews you should know if you like a game even if it gets a bad review, just by what the reviewer said. What has mmorpg.com said? They are excited and we should be looking forward to Aug 2nd. I think we own them enough to give them that much. So excitedly I wait for Aug 2nd =-)

What do we have to lose? Nothing =-)
