I am not new to MMOs, but my wife is. She fell in love with Final Fantasy 11, and only played casually. At the time we could not play at the same time :P. But this time around we got the PCs to do so.

Hello Zaylin,

I am the community lead for Demented Asylum.  My wife will also be playing.  I am a raider at heart.  My wife... not so much.  However in FFXIV 1.0 her and I spent hours just crafting.  She really enjoys crafting and I enjoyed the character development that FFXIV brings.  Really worked out well for us.  We have several other couples in the community as well.   I like to recruit both casuals and raiders as they bring a different charm that is needed in a guild.  I have a good group of folks that are helpful and knowledgeable.  Most of us are lazy and do most of our communicating via teamspeak.  Much easier to chat and play that way. lol.  You can find more info on our recruitment here as well as our website.
