So I am really interested in the DayZ SA, and also this whole genre. I am currently sitting with Steam open wondering if I should say ****it and buy Arma 2 plus and get the DayZ mod to try it out.....
So should I? Will anyone be on the servers? Will it just be me and some zombie?
I realize being new it is almost certain I will die quick and fast which is okay becuase I am a capable learner. I just want to know if my money and time will be wasted? Can I have some input please.

best zombie apocalyptic game ever.
don't expect polished gameplay/graphics or incredibly pretty, but as long as you play on a well policed server this game is just the best survival game out there. bar none. it's definitely a must try.
it does take a while to grow on you but I swear there is no other game that feels like it. especially now with all the different mods for Dayz ( well not really mods, more like different versions of the Dayz mod) this game is a lot of fun. I highly suggest trying Dayz Origins too. Fallujah mod is also pretty sweet.
this game is NOT for those that like hand holding. this game is for those that like complete freedom and survival at it's most desolate.
Definitely download the Dayz Commander app. it's free and it automatically keeps all your Dayz mods in order, updated and finds the best servers. Super smooth and efficient. Definitely a must for playing Dayz.
be aware that Dayz is only a mod, and has many glitches. even still, once you get the survival bug (...just on more day alive!) it's hard to put down.
ps: you can see how many people are on each server before you join it, so you it's up to you how many people you want to play with. Unless you like hunting other players you don't want many people as most player encounters turn into quick deaths. it's just soo easy to die in this game that nobody wants to take any chances.
If the wait for the standalone weren't so unknown I'd say hold out for that to skip alot of the hassle setting the game up. Would make your experience with it that much better.
The game is definately worth a go. Good chance to see how it plays before the standalone releases. I'll probably be returning to the game myself when that releases for some good fun.
PM before you report at least or you could just block.
There are still a good amount of people that play.
It will initially be very hard and frustrating I can tell you that from first hand experience. You wont survive long and you may not find a gun, food, water for a long time. You will learn things by accident and slowly as you go.
After a while it will become easier, learning the layout of the map, learning where to scavenge and what areas to avoid.
I would wait to buy the stand alone version, just because Arma 2 is so expensive and I assume the stand alone will have much more stability and upgrades.
DayZ is definitly an experience!
I already had arma II, so for me it was a nobrainer.
If you've done a lot of research and know what you're getting, and you're still thinking of buying, then go for it man, you wont regret it...
DayZ is a great game.
yes, finding good servers with active admins that promptly deal with cheaters/annoying people is a bit hard at first, but once you find a few good servers you are set.
whatever you do DO NOT crawl close to, or inside, buildings. there is an incredibly high chance of braking bones for no reason. once you break bones you are pretty much fucked unless you have morphine.
as a rule towns/cities have lots of supplies/guns/vehicles but they are also pvp hotspots as the chances of bumping into other players scavenging is very high. While I've heard of player encounters where nobody instantly opens fire on the other, I have yet to have such an experience, and i'm now seriously starting to believe that those "love and let live" encounters were nothing more than 2 players out of ammo.
at first you will get quite frustrated as a lot of building are not enterable, but once you get used to which buildings are accessible and have stuff in them things will start looking more promising.
easiest way to survive at first is to just get a the necessary supplies/ decent gun, and just head out into the country (away from the beach). There is so much open map that it's very unlikely anyone will find you. the trick then it's staying alive with little food/supplies.
of course if you like your survival very action packed you can always try and stick it out in the cities and basically kill anything that moves.
if you have any questions feel free to ask.
Just DL arma2 complete and DayZ you dont need to DL anything else just play through steam beta version lastest one and many servers with plenty players.
When you new i suggest play pure server where you start with only bandage and pain killer or less and try survive thats the purist way to expereince what this game is al about.
All the servers that offer easy gameplay is bullshit:P
DayZ fully experience is hardcore pure survival servers.
So I want to encourage anyone that has not tried this type of game to do so. I am really pleased with the shear reality of the experience. Its a cutthroat scarey job trying to survive on a busy server haha. I don't even mind when I get shot in the head for peaking around a corner in elektro. You learn lesson constantley that will help the next attempt you take on surviving.
@groovy....I have tried the bare minimum starts, and try to just limit my playing to the US hives. Kudos to viligant addiction for there servers.
I am very excited for the stand alone version.
