- there's still no AH, which is a common feature found in almost all MMOs now.
- if you want to form a group, you are still forced to /Shout in a zone or join a LS and ask your friends. There needs to be a LFG feature.
- cooldown on leves is still too long, and they still give you too few.
- no voiceovers
Note: Even though Duty Finder and no voiceovers are things that are supposedly being addressed in future phases of beta, they are currently not in the current version of FFXIV and therefore are negatives until addressed.
1. The game HAS an AH. It's unlocked at level 20 when you complete Copper Hell and finish the quest before Ifrit in the story line. They wanted this to be a locked feature to make sure people understand the game a bit and develop a basic understanding of item value before they can sell stuff. Once you reach 20 and unlock the feature, you can hire a Retainer. This will allow you to utilize the AH system just like any other MMO. Do your homework before your complain about negatives.
2. There IS a looking for group function and it's very powerful. Next time browse your menu for the Social Window, and Modify your Party Status. You'll see a wide collection of great ways to find groups, including a powerful search function to find other party members. A lot of people don't use it because they don't exactly relate Groups with Socializing, go figure.. Besides, we're getting Duty Finger next week which will auto-party you with people from other servers, so really your complaint is already being addressed next week. Again, do your homework...
3. Well when it comes to Leves, honestly they are just fine. Normally you're not even supposed to be doing those until your 2nd Class anyway. You're supposed to be saving up the points and doing normal Quests and Story Missions firsts. Eventually you'll raise up 100 Leve points, and by that time you just can just do them pretty much non-stop as much as you want. Did I mention you can also group with people to make them go faster? These quests are numerous at higher levels, you should try them when you're in your 30s before you complain about their overall number.
4. This game is completely voiced and has voice over cut scenes at launch. Again, do your homework. Hell even the trailer shows that:
I don't think you have any negatives to be honest....
I appreciate your post because it's full of great info that I was not aware of. As I stated before, I played FFXIV 1.0 for only a few weeks and didn't get to many of the features because I couldn't look past the glaring problems of lag, combat, and horrible UI.
1. I understand their reasoning for making retainers available at 20, but I'm not sure if many players will agree with such choices. The retainer system also requires that you speak with more than 1 NPC to find stuff for sell, opposed to 1 in AH system. However, the Market Board seems like it will be that 1 NPC. I like the idea behind the retainer system, and I think that after the Market Board is added I will be content with their version of AH.
2. I don't recall many people in beta utilizing the LFG feature. There was a lot of shouting, which seems so archaic. I want to be able to find a group from any zone without having to wait around for a shout. I'm used to their being channels or a place where people can post that they are looking for people for a certain instance. I hope there's more to it than just changing my status to "LFG" because that doesn't say much.
3. In beta, I used leves to supplement my leveling because I ran out of quests. It got even more grindy when I switched to a second class. I understand that there are better ways to utilize the leves, but as someone just starting out and new to the game the frequency/amount seems inadequate. This probably won't be a problem after a few days.
4. The trailer does not show me that anything will be voiced. It's a normal flashy trailer from SE. It's nice to know they will be there at launch though.
- no voiceovers ( supposedly being added in Phase 4). wrong, voiceovers will be added in-game at launch because strict contracts between Square Enix and voice actors.... they simply can't use their voices in beta.
Now that's a reasoning that's really far fetched. Most, if not all voice actors work through one of the big agencies in Japan. In no way would SE or any other company working with a voice actor sign to an agreement that restricts the use of those bits by the actor. It's really the other way around. Once it's recorded, it belongs to SE to do what they wish with it.

1) No the AH is in and implemented since like . . . at least phase 2. Or part of it. You can walk right up and buy something off the market board. Putting something on I think requires the retainer, though. However, apparantly there is a new updated version coming to where you can put stuff up for sale right from your inventory (but it is still done via your retainer, but automatically, or that's how I understood it. I could be totally wrong)
2) No one utilized it because it wasn't in. As I said earlier, it'll be tested this weekend, and if not, then next weekend.
3) no comment on leves, I never had a problem accruing large amounts of allowances, up to your personal playstyle/pref
4) The trailer is done using only voiced lines from the game cutscenes. All of those are lines from the game. So yea, it shows you a sample of the voice work.

Can we get some proof, Ive heard nothing of the sort, only that the main quests might be VO
Any graphical, audio, or gameplay restrictions not seen in other mmos but found in FFXIV can be blamed on one thing.
PS3
