Community Still Silent

SuperXero89SuperXero89 Member UncommonPosts: 2,551

Even though ARR is a huge improvement over the original, and one of the most initially impressive MMOs I've had the pleasure of playing, I do find it odd that the community is still incredibly silent.  Rarely do I ever hear any chatter from anyone whatsoever, -- not even a whole lot of LFG messages.

Granted, I did accidently roll on a japanese server, but even watching my friend play on a server from the appropriate region, there was still minimal chatter.  Compared to F2P Rift where there's a constant stream of chatter, I find it odd and a slight bit boring.

I recall in the original FFXIV the chat distance was extremely short. Is there an area/world/trade etc chat?

Drop the next-gen marketing and people will argue if the game itself has merit.

It's not a chatroom, it's a game, for playing. I know i won't talk if im getting immersed within the game world or doing some pvp and focusing on not getting killed. You need to remember not everyone wants to talk or the time, they could be talking to their freinds or in their guild and lets be honest, when there is global chat going in games it's usually a bunch of trolls or someone who just doesn't know when to stop.

I noticed it was a lot quieter this last go around. Perhaps people were engrossed in checking up on their characters, getting stuff done, etc.

The first week of Beta 3 was a lot more chatty. People were extremely chatty. I'm gonna make it a point to be more chatty this weekend and in the future. I think sometimes the people just need a bit of a "nudge". Get a few people talking and others will generally join in.

Just gotta get people out of their shells, I think.

I saw quite a bit of chat.

I didn't talk much as I had a level 50 that was running around and looking at all the new sights.  Maybe it's because a lot of the 1.0 people were on their own servers, as they are typically a really nice and social bunch from my past experiences.

This could also be a good sign, as a lot of talk in a beta usually means people are fighting against trolls.  Though I don't recall anyone saying they didn't like the game in any of the phases I've been in (while in game).

Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing).  German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century.  Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now).  I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things).  In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while.  If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.

Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this.  If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own.  Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis.  Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.

This last weekend I was to busy having fun to talk randomly other than once or twice to ask the for the location of a certain mob. All in All I hope the community stays as classy as it seems to be right now during the beta.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

I think the issue is shout is the largest kind of area chat and well once you load into a new area you can't keep chatting with the same people.  When launch is out LS and FC will help with this though since people aren't really recruiting/joining them since only beta still.

Edit: Also RIFT is a horrible example to give imo.  The level chats were horrible and 99% of the time since F2P.  I would rather have little chat than constant uninteresting/trolling chat.

Guys.....like half the pop is on PS3 with no keyboards.  That's why there is relatively little chat.

You know, a LOT of us talk on voice chat instead... vent, mumble, team speak, etc.

I've seen a decent amount of chat. Once people figured out how to use /sh and such.

Go into the cities, and tons of chat

Go out into the world, small chat (mainly at the higher areas) because /shout doesn't go that far at all.

It might also vary by city state

Well ... did YOU say anything? Did your friend?

I would imagine other players are busy trying to get as much gaming as possible before their measly 2 days of test time runs out. /shrug... thats why I didnt say anything. Then again ive never really been one to join in on the idle (aka trolling) chatter that goes on in General  for about 90% of the time.

I made the mistake of rolling on a Japanese server (Atomos) too and there was still a decent amount of chat....even though I couldn't understand what was being said.  I even got to group with a few people and they were gracious enough to tell me what they were discussing, translating to English the best they could.

I believe alot of peaple arn't chatting because the servers are only up for 48 hrs, before down a week again. Most peaple are trying to experiance as much as they can, with he time that they have.

I only have a max 8 hrs i can spend on it each week, so ye im trying to go through as much as i can. But i believe once open beta comes around, and the servers are up 24/7, peaple wont be in such a hurry and take there time, and even chill around the starter cities talking to peaple.

Expecially after the game has been out for awhile, and peaple have done evrything, and now end up just helping other peaple do things, more socializing.

In both betas I've played in so far, there have been several people chatting using /shout. It was kind of like LFG, but more mature. Some zones were more chatty than others, especially the zones with mobs LV1-10, for obvious reasons. I think a lot of people were just trying to experience the content. Also, a lot of people seemed pleased with the game. I actually didn't see one complaint.

I don't talk during betas myself and don't expect anybody else to too.

Gamepad support -> chatting significantly more inconvenient -> massively reduced chat spam

    Significantly less

    "THIS GAME SUXX!! LOLZ! "

"GAME X IS SO MUCH BETTER!"

    "CHUCK NORRIS LOL"

    Huge improvement in my book.
