I still haven't seen a valid argument of how empirically F2P "destroys" PvE.
Once your success in game is determined by your success outside of game, then PvE success stops being a measure of in game skill, effectively destroying PvE.
Its not always that cut and dry but that is the jist of it. My success in game should be influenced by two things - my ability and my time invested. Once either is compromised by cash, then there is little reason to continue.
Any "success" or "achievement" in a game is an illusion created by the devs for entertaining purpose anyway.
So what if it is not a measure of game skills. If the game is fun/entertaining, it serves its purpose.
So? pay to play MMOs have been using artificial treadmills to keep people paying since EQ1. GameStop tries to get me to buy more video games than I want, or "coerce" me into preordering something. Casinos entice me to play, and Wal-Mart makes me walk by the potato chips to get a gallon of milk!
Great info, thanks. "F2P" is an intentionally deceptive business model that is costing the average player a lot of $, and is very much P2W. The falacy of whales footing most of the bill is just that; falacy. Anyone who doesn't believe me can do their own in-game poll to see how much their fellow gamers are spending.
I play a couple F2P MMOs and I haven't spent a dime on them... Sometimes I wish I had the money to spend in Combat Arms but I never do.
What do you call P2P + cash shop selling items you don't even find in many F2P games then?
A scam too, the only games that seem fair to me are the pure P2P games and F2P games with cosmetics.
WoW (might change), FFXI, FFXIV, and a few F2P games that only sell cosmetics and doing so with fairness without any impact on the gameplay.
while i prefer no payment barriers (non-sub) i have to say that successful F2P games with cosmetic cash shop is easier to accomplish (and more profitable) if they switch to the GW2 model. Selling the game client.
Also, WoW is already working on including a more expanded cash shop in the game. Not just services and mouts / pets. Its coming to china for now, expect it in NA/EU some time in the future.

Data shows that most don't pay and the industry is supported by whales.

Why these monetizaion tricks can only be used by FTP games? Can't they be implemented in P2P games too?
Don't tell me P2P games won't. They don't now doesn't mean they don't in the future.

When it is no longer about the game but more about making money, I don't feel like playing.
Some F2P models are okay, but more and more they try to trick you into giving them money.
It's not fun anymore then. Buy once and play is better than Free with tricks. You know what I mean.

^^ this data is an example.
And personally it is quite easy for me .. just ignore everything that has do with buying and focus on free part. So far, it worked great for me.
