question about alts..

1st let me say that I cant wait to play this game, But i never did play 1.0. So on that note lets begin. I love rolling alts on MMO's, so the questions I have are:

1. is there a point to rolling an alt if I can switch classes any time I want?

2. Can I do the starter quests from all 3 cities on one character?

3. Would it benefit me at all to roll a new character other than different race/looks.

im sure I will have more questions to come, thanks for the help

    1) In FFXI, alts were mainly used for more inventory space, or for roleplaying. It was similar in 1.0. The subscription breakdown was such that you had to pay extra for more character slots as well, so there is also that to consider. If the story quests are limited (see #2), then that may also be another reason to start alts so you can see all of the cutscenes in person, or so you can have a character in each of the Grand Companies.

    2) Starter quests yes, story quests I don't think so.

    3) Roleplaying mainly. The stats between the races and their associations differ minorly, but not such that it would greatly affect your gameplay or their viability.

    1. No, unless you need more inventory/retainer space. You have to pay per extra character slot, though.

    2. Yes, but not the main story line.

    3. Roll what you think looks best. The stats that come with them are so minimal that it's not worth choosing a race for 1-2 extra points in a stat when that can just be made up with materia.

For the $12.99 a month plan you get 1 character per a server (up to 8 total).  For $14.99 you get 8 per a server(up to 40 total).  Those are the 30 day prices.  You can get the higher plan for $12.99 with a 6-month subscription(pretty sure it's upfront not like a contract thing).

Or possibly if you wanted to use a different name for RP purposes.

8 characters on the advanced plan, so you could circumvent the entire crafting process by making a class exclusive character x 5 war and x2 magic. The thing being, many of the class actions are carry over. You can make a Marauder 50, Conjurer 50 and have a heal action on your Marauder. Single 50 characters will be weaker than a multiple 50. It's more about gear for the addition 50's to level them. If you start as a Marauder and save all your gear from the quests, you will be able to use most of it to level say a Gladiator but you will need to obtain cloth for the conjurer by other means (crafting or NPC reward GC gear)

I had 3 slots in 1.00 bring my sub to around $15. I will have the 8 option in ARR simply for the rest exper. I will always be leveling with enhanced Exper as I will alternate according to who has rest bar.
