How many say one thing and do another? Like talk about how linear themeparks are the devil and turn around and defend a game like FFXIV. I've seen a few do that, much to my chagrin and amazement.
lolo ofcourse everyone says one thing and does another(go to a themepark)
when there are no sandboxes worth mentioning, except maybe a 10 year old ultima, what do you exspect.
To the OP; they hate it because it will probably have classes and not be console style pew pew pew combat. The younger generation are all console players and that's what they want in RPGS, if they're not going to get it they spew hate.
GW2 had "action" combat and that game is terrible. I hope they don't fall in to the "we're going to innovate the interface and controls" trap and instead deliver us outstanding content, because that's where every mmo since WoW has failed.
I hate having another month to wait for actual info! Can't wait for the arguments to turn toward real issues (dark elves ears aren't pointy enough, iksar don't have enough scales, female dwarves should have beards!)
Hopefully they open up offical forums asap and those just stopping by to be negative, wont bother anymore. Or at least have something constructive to say.
I haven't seen a lot of hate on these forums for EQN only negative response to the positive hype based on air and wishful thinking and people with agendas trying to shape what little information there is into what they want to see.
I think most of us are wait and see.
I believe it is not just EQN, any game that gets a lot of hype draws some hate here. the " for every action there is an equal an opposite reaction" factor. Of course some of the "hate" is not an actual hate but a desire to troll. I saw a lot of hate for GW2 during the pre-launch hype for that game.

um self control?Courage of Conviction? If you hate themeparks but continue to contribute to their sales success you deserve what you get.
If you feel you have to play a MMORPG just to be playing one even if you hate it,then you have a problem you should seek help with and should probably leave the genre completely.
No difference i guess than claiming the positive either is there? The OP's stance is ONLY worried about negative and not worried about positive hype, both have their place in game discussion.
My personal stance is i expect a good game but i also 100% expect cash shop which is NEVER a good thing.I think we can agree on that it will have cash shop right,as station cash is not going anywhere. So to say no information yet,we still have a VERY good idea what to expect from SOE.
Remember people in charge are just people, they have their way of thinking,a certain mind set,so yes you have a pretty good idea of what to expect from a Smedley run organization. Now if it was a toally new person in charge, then yes we would be toally out in left field trying to guess.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I've seen a LOT of extremely negative, hateful, angry, cynical, resentful, doomsaying posts about EQNext already and it literally has no solid information yet at all. Nothing. Seriously?? For all you know this could be one of the most enjoyable games you've ever played. And sure, maybe it wouldn't be, but why already go to that point of discounting and eliminating it as an option to you without knowing ANYTHING about it? I can understand being ambivalent or on-the-fence waiting for actual info before being excited, but already hating on the game that no one knows anything about is just as ridiculous as people 100% positive this will be their savior MMO. Actually, it's worse, because the only feedback that has come out so far about the game has been EXTREMELY positive. And while people can argue the legitimacy of getting best of show from 2 big mmo websites at E3, which I agree with, the bottom line is still that the feedback was extremely positive, NOT negative. But still, people swinging completely in the opposite direction with the hating, doomsaying, wanting it to fail, etc etc.
What is wrong with you people? Is it just a joy at watching other things fail - in other words being pretty miserable, angry and resentful inside? Have you been burned too many times getting excited for a new game only to be disappointed so now you don't even allow yourself to feel anything but skepticism at any new game release? Or is it maybe contempt or resentment at SOE or Smedley for things done in the past? Maybe the company has done some things you don't agree with or that affected you personally in a negative way and you want to see the company suffer? 80% or more of the reasons why I see people saying this game will be horrible or will fail is because of some thing that happened in the past with another game of SOE. This isn't the past people and it isn't one of those other games!! Have you never made a mistake or done something that others don't agree with, then in the future do a better job and improve? Are we, and SOE, locked into doing the exact same things over and over again? Any mistake we make, doomed to repeat it? Of course not!! I HATED few things SOE has done but so what, why can't I give them a chance with this? I want people to give me a chance when I screw something up to do better next time. Why even go to that area of hate already? THERE IS NO INFO YET - GIVE THE GAME A CHANCE TO SUCK BEFORE DECIDING IT SUCKS AND GIVE SOE A CHANCE TO SCREW IT UP BEFORE DECIDING IT'S ALREADY SCREWED UP!! Jeez
And hell no I don't think people need to be a fanboi or even be excited for the game yet. But hating it and wanting it to fail already really does nothing but hurt you. People excited will remain excited, people waiting for more info will continue to wait for more info before deciding, but you will have already eliminated a game that could be fun as hell for you based solely on your own resentments, anger, or whatever it is that results in the despising of something that literally is completely amorphous as of this point in time.
How can you hype a game with no information also? I think the knife cuts both ways.
How can you hype a game with no information also? I think the knife cuts both ways.
Ultimately it is a wait and see game.
well for some of us its the hype of the title. I loved old school EQ1 and played EQ2 as well for some time. I am hyped that another title is coming out in the franchise... Does not really mean most of us think it will be "good" or "bad," just that we are hyped about the game =P
You know how sandbox players hate anything labeled "themepark"?
It's actually pretty easy to hate something that's just bullet point sparkles in some marketer's eye.
Of course, that are damn few bullet points that even exist yet, for this month's...
It'll be easier mid-August. We can get back to the normal intra-faction sandbox squabbling--some minor but very vocal faction is not going to get what they wanted, guaranteed.
Self-pity imprisons us in the walls of our own self-absorption. The whole world shrinks down to the size of our problem, and the more we dwell on it, the smaller we are and the larger the problem seems to grow.
There does seem to be a strange dichotomy among gamers where they play games for so many hours of their life & yet seem to be incapable of discussing things about their hobby objectively, it is as if the vocal, forum-going part of the community is turning into a hate-mob.
Why are people so passionate about hating a hobby that millions seem to passionately partake in?
I know a lot of the SOE-hate is based mostly on 2 things, both of them relative to just one game & both largely impacted by the license-holder's desires. There is some extra grief from how the other titles were handled but most of it is those 2.
Where the rest of the hate for an unreleased title comes from is pure illogical assholery in my opinion, its moaning to be cool & like the other vocal bellyachers.
Now for all I know EQN will be an unmitigated disaster & a total pos of a game, but I highly doubt it, SOE do know what they are doing & I think that they have possibly timed this title's shift into a new MMO "model" (not necessarily business model though I suspect there will actually be a few big surprises on that front) really well & may have a big hit on their hands, big hit does not mean wow killer.
I'm really looking forward to see just what SOE has been keeping up it's very well secreted sleeves, but I'll not condemn it before I know more, much more, like tested beta more at the very least.
I don't really understand how you can hate something you don't really know anything about. I can understand how you can say that you have had bad feelings from a particular developer or something. That being said, I hope that EQN is a great game. I like several hundred thousand people played EQ1 for a very long time. I have always looked for another game that gave me the same excitement as EQ. I also played WOW for a couple of years and I always felt that it was best in its "vanilla" state. I never played UO, and I know that this game had a lot of very cool features about it.
I cant say what would make the next great MMO. I am not sure there can be one the way EQ was for many of us or WOW was for millions. I don't know that MMO'S will ever reach the same hype as it did at its peak with WOW. I have not played any MMO for a while now. I am getting older and have a different set of importance's now. That being said I would love to feel the way EQ made me feel about a game again. I see all the talk about Themepark versus sandbox and I cant help but feel that you cant make the next best MMO without parts of both. Ideas like having no levels and a do whatever I want and go wherever I want whenever I want don't really make a whole lot of since. Most people in reality need some form of direction or they begin to feel completely lost. Though I don't believe the majority of players want a game that gives them a quest then moves them 10 feet over to the next quest and this is how it flows though the whole game. I believe it will be hard to move to far backwards if you will , when it comes to games. Games like WOW and most newer MMO'S are a race to the end lvl and that is what the game was designed around. This is not what we want today. However we certainly do not want the 100's of hours of grinding that EQ1 was about. The slower pace and the social side of EQ was 1 of the greatest things about the game IMO. Now in that statement the slower pace equals hand in hand to the social side of it. I am not sure people want to go back to the same level of challenge that EQ brought. Dying should have some consequence. I remember being so nervous about traveling and such as it could cost you hours of playtime if you died, or you would have to go and search for someone to pay to resurrect you. That challenge was part of what made it exciting, but has been gone so long, most people used to newer titles would not accept that. Most of the concepts in EQ that made it hard and challenging have been removed or refined to make it way easier, and I think this is what most of the older gamers want back. However we are spoiled in the way newer IP play and even the older MMO gamers may not feel the same way if they are thrown back in time to older EQ days. The sad part of this for me is that all that challenge is what kept our interests I believe, yet I am not sure I would even want to go back to the "slower" pace. I have always though it was funny a game titled Everquest had so few quests in it! Yet we still enjoyed it so much and we all managed to level up. The quest that were in EQ were generally hard and time consuming ( ie. EPIC QUESTS). Today we are used to quest that are easy and generally fast to complete so we can level up and move to the next set of quests. I think this is where everyone wants or thinks they want some change. I don't know the answer to this question, but if we could put our finger on what made EQ such a great game that gave everyone that level of enjoyment that kept them there so long, we could create the next best MMO. I am hoping they somehow have figured this out with EQN and I can one again adventure in Norrath once again. I have so much love for EQ, but I know a reroll of the original game would fail. I am hoping that they can take the concepts from the original game and include some portions of the themepark and sandbox styles and bring them all together. I cant personally wait to see what they have to say about it on Aug 2. This is just my 2 cents on the matter and some of my hopes for the EQNext!!!

Most people do not hate games they may dislike them and stop playing them but not hate.
Some people however see any opinion that doesn't agree with their own as hate.
A Very few people however do go overboard and fall into fanatical hate or love with games.
