Ok my old desktop is... getting old, running on Win XP and all. But I dont want to replace the desktop, I want to buy a Notebook with Win 8. Mostly to be able to play the new stuff which doesnt run on XP and much already doesnt run well on XP.
Either way. I am really poor, so I am sorta on the fence how much to invest. Basically I am down the the Acer V3 series, I want 17 inch and I want to game. Now I know, all tests always say "buy only the uber card", speaking of graphic cards, but I sort of wonder what I really need.
Let me start with my reference, my desktop, which mostly run games ok in terms of resolution and speed. I dont want a worse Notebook but it doesn't have to be SO much better. A bit better is alright enough. Here goes:
Intel Core2 CPU 6400 3.13 Ghz 4 GB RAM
Windows XP Sp3 - NVIDIA Geforce 560 GTX
Yeah not great so far I could play games like Skyim or SimCity 5 smoothly on medium.
Sorry, the links are in german, but you see the specs easily I hope. I would be very grateful if you guys had some insight. Thanks ahead. ^^
Here are the ACER ones, there is an Intel HD4000, a Geforce 710m in an i5 and a Geforce 760m in an i7, but that is actually out of my price range
The alternative are ASUS Notebooks, but I heard their monitors are not good??
(SORRY, the links always vanished, I had to edit the post several times.) I would be very grateful for any advise on this. ^^

Budget minded individuals would be better off buying/building an upgradable desktop. That way pay what you can now and make upgrades when can be afforded. Even better if you can build or have a friend who can. Get the right motherboard and you could put in a great vidcard (for example) that is a year or two old for a hundred bucks.
A budget gaming laptop will need to replaced to play average games in a relatively short lifespan making it a total waste of money.
I just lack the space to place a 2nd desktop, and I really dont wanna get rid of my current one.

If you want a laptop that isn't slower than your desktop, then the cheapest you'll find will almost certainly be the MSI GX60, which is unique in that pairs a high end (for a laptop) video card with an AMD processor--and the AMD processor saves hundreds as compared to an Intel Core i7. If you look it up and choke on the price, then you should consider that the only alternatives that won't be a downgrade in performance will probably cost more--and likely a whole lot more.
The GeForce 710M that you're looking at is so low end that Nvidia won't even tell you how low end it is. If you want a desktop comparison, then you'd probably have to go all the way back to the GeForce 300 series to find a bottom of the line card that isn't faster than a GeForce 710M.
If space is really the concern rather than portability, then perhaps you ought to look into a Mini ITX box and a KVM switch. The latter would let you keep your current monitor, keyboard, and mouse from your current computer and switch them between your new and old computers at the push of a button.
Ok what about this:
Acer V3-772G-747a161TMakk
Intel® Core i7-4702MQ ten CPU
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 750M with 4096MB DDR3 VRAM
Alternative version with
8 GB RAM and NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 760M with 2048MB GDDR5 VRAM
What about these? They cost 1000 Euro, which is JUST my limit.

The GeForce GT 750M might be 1/3 as fast as your current card, while the GTX 760M might be 2/3 as fast.
Seriously, though, a KVM switch takes a lot less space than a laptop, and a Mini ITX box doesn't take much space, either. Go that route and you could get a hefty upgrade over your current computer for the same price.
You're a spoilsport you know that. =P
Nah, just kidding.
Sigh. But it is so... shiny! XD And the ITX... hurm I only get them for cash not monthly rates.
Bah. Guess I can the entire plan and live with XP until this comp explodes.

Unfortunately the laptop graphics cards are no where nearly as powerful as a desktop graphics card. The NVidia 750m get's an average fps on Sim City of 29.2 on medium setting. I wouldn't want to play a game on setting that are under 30 fps because you will notice the frame rate drops and it will become choppy. If you don't have a lot of money to buy a top of the line laptop, then laptop gaming isn't a very good idea.
If I were you, i'd just stick with your current machine.

That is very odd,my system is older and weaker and i can play any mmorpg out there including FFXIV whch i have been playing.
Anyhow the easiest way to determine how good your system is using the rating system.I am not sure but i think Windows still uses it.I would say anything above 7-7.5 will be good for any game. The rating system does as should be the case,it tests your machine weighing in all the components because you are only as good as your weakest link.
I have a laptop that is only an I3 and it is really good,i can play 2 copies of any MMORPG out right now,so really spending all that extra money for the top end systems is imo not worth the very small increments of improvement. So as long as you find a good I5 with no weak components you should be rocking.
