So everquest is a wow clone ?
Obtuse or trolling?
People use the term "WOW clone" because it's a safe bet that everyone in the conversation is familiar with WOW. If it was a safe bet that everyone was familiar with EQ, that would have been the term adopted. This has been explained ad nauseum here, so it's rather odd that someone who has been posting here for eight years would ask such a question.

To say EverQuest was like WoW is an insult anyways, the games were vastly different, it's not until post WoW did SOE slowly turn EQ to be more like WoW. The same goes with EQ2, it was a vastly different game, firstly you pretty much had to group through the whole game but now it's been dumbed down that even WoW players find it too easy.
WoW clone is a term I think gets far too often used and abused. Many games people use the term for now have little in common with WoW, and some are even better in my own opinion.
Originally posted by Shadanwolf OP..play RIFT for 5 levels and you will answer your own question.
Rift and WoW play nothing alike.
In WoW you just sit in the city and queue for instances, you venture out in the world of WoW and its dead.
In Rift there are hunt rifts, open world Raid bosses, etc... also Rifts class system is IMO 10x better than WoW
There's actual combat that happens in Rifts zones due to Rift invasions and zone events.
So you did not log into WoW the last year I see. I guess you missed the massive forum QQ on world zones being too populated and world pvp too annoying.
hint: log into WoW and visit Goldshire these days.... and the virtual realm is not even launched yet.
btw world bosses are again common these days.
a WoW copycat outrun by the original, no wonder Rift turned free to play ....

Compared within the spectrum of class-restricted, level-based, gear dependent MMOs, Everquest and World of Warcraft are very different games. When compared against the greater spectrum of MMOs, they are incredibly similar.
