Question about Pre Searing Ascalon

TigerchaTigercha Member Posts: 182

When you first start in GuildWars you enter the Pre Seering (trainer world) when you Spawn the guy in frount of you is standing in the way of the Gate to the Real game and says soemthing to the effect of " when you have finished all your buissness come back", So when you eventually go back after questing in the Pre Seering world yo return to him and he sort of says, ok hang here for awhile,

what happened next was that I was zapped into an arena with 3 others, 2 of which run over and got them selves killed, what place is this and what is it all about, and what happens if you win this battle in the alloted time.

Next after we were killed we landed in a cave where the same 2 damn players died, after running away whilst I was waiting for the fourth player to arrive, myself and this indervidual killed the baddies in the caves and then I appeared in the Seared city of ascalon.

Can someone point me to a website that explains this part of the game or give me an idea what this was all about and what bonuses where on offer if we had survived the first arena, and can you choose who you do the mission with

That place you were "zapped" into was just the out side of the city and you and your party has to clear the cave of charr just the beggining of the end of Ascalon.

well, once you and your NPC's go through the cave and kill the charr boss at the end, A movie clip show how the charr summon these huge meteors from the heavens and destroy the city of Ascalon

there is a little pvp battle in that in-between stage, as far as im aware party selection is random. I haven't won that battle, so I don;t know what happens if you win, I doubt it matters that much. The cave bit is a storyline device to allow you to survive the searing.

I was suprised that it forces you to PvP, but was pretty cool - though not being able to pick classes makes some of the battles pretty unfair (like 2 warriors and a ranger against a mix of monk, mesmer and necro). I didn't worry about it, it is the introduction to the main game after all.

One thing I noticed last beta was the absence of primary monks (on the european servers, at least) - almost the opposite of past beta's. I'm wondering whether the new start to the game puts more emphasis on solo ability? I prefered it when you started post-searing, made it a bit easier to get in to IMO - I'm worried some players will go though the entire game using NPC henchmen then wonder why they get bored quickly...

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

I played a new Ranger/Monk up to level 5 last week before going through the Academy mission. For some reason, I got paired with 1 necromancer or something like that. We did OK against the first two people that came out, but then there were suddenly 4, so it was 4 against 2 (plus my pet). We just kept getting smushed over and over again until time ran out.
