Gamer headset advice!

treyu86treyu86 Member UncommonPosts: 270

I am going to buy a new gaming headset, and I would like them to be compatible with both PC and Xbox360 (consoles in general). Price, around 100$, if it is a bit less much better. I don't know much about headsets, but if they are wireless it would be cool so I can play far from the console, but I guess that non-wireless will sound better?

I have been looking and found these two as possible options:

Any advice or better options? thanks!

    * didn't catch the part about xbox.  I don't play consoles.

*Best set of headphones I ever owned were Razer.  Problem was a few years ago they only really worked with Razer soundcards.  I can't tell you about today's headsets, but the build quality and more importantly the sound quality were the best I've experienced.

As far as I know, no headsets are compatible with all consoles.  That may change as the next generation of consoles move closer towards a PC-like architecture, but it is hard to predict the actions of M$ and $ony.

If you have to buy the headset now, I would look for something which is made to be compatible with both PC and the console of your choice.  However, it might be wiser to wait until the next generation of consoles is out so you can ensure compatibility with the new consoles.  If you still want to buy now, you can usually rely on analog audio formats sticking around.  As long as the headset you buy supports analog input, almost any device will be able to pump audio to it if you're willing to use the right adapters.

Turtle Beach has a bunch that are good for PC and Xbox, not sure about other consoles.

Never had a problem with my turtle beach.

    I have the Kraken Pro.

To be honest my Logitech G330's have a better mic quality.

The sound on the Krakens are ok, not good at all for music or movies as the bass washes out everything else giving it a sort of muddy sound.

As for gaming the sound is good enough. The headsets themselves are pretty light and don't crush the top of your skull. You can wear them for a long period of time without getting a sore scalp. The only issue is your ears will get sweaty.

If you can get them on sale (got mine from best buy using reward certs and a $10 gift card - effectively dropping the price to $20) it's a good deal. Other than that they are probably not worth the full $80 as a $30 Logitech G330 has the better mic and slightly better sound overall.

There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
