tech question:is my ssd dead

miagisanmiagisan Member Posts: 5,156

I was watching hbo go, when my comp froze up for some reason. I rebooted the computer (hard reboot), and while my bios recognizes my ssd, no abnormal post beeps, it says windows loading and just stays there.

I try booting from windows dvd, and same issue, hangs on windows loading.

I unplug my ssd and i can then boot up with my windows dvd.

So before i run out and buy a new ssd, just want to see what you think.

It should still be under warranty if you have had it only 4 months.

There is a possibility it could also be either the particular SATA port on your motherboard, or the SATA cable - both of those are easy to rule out before you go through the process of warranty replacement on your SSD.

If you have access to it, I would try that drive in either another computer, or an external SATA enclosure, and see if you can get it to come up and get the data pulled off it.

Yup.. Same thing happened to me.. Your SSD is D. E. D....  Ded.  /grin

The only ssd I've had last a long time is Samsung.

Yeah, i tried other ports and cables. No joy. It was a sandisk ultra plus 128gb. Went out and picked up a samsung 840 120gb. Working smoothly and i love the magician software it comes with. I tried hooking up my old drive to an esata port and usb with adapter, its totally unreadable.

The Samsung 840 is a really good SSD. Its one of the few high on my list as an SSD.
