I played rift at release, and decided to re-download and pick up where I left off. Although it appears I cannot use my old account from back when ...
Seems stupid to me, I paid for the game and a sub and kind of expect to be able tp play again with my old characters.
The response from customer service was border line rude, just a straight, we cannot help you.
Anyone else had this issue ?

MY characters where all there when i revived the game after ftp..
Maybe your account got somehow banned?

Not heard of anyone having issues with old account.
I wouldn't say they were rude they just answered your question.
And what did you send to them seems a bit strange they cannot help you had a couple of friends only played the first week at launch and were able to login right away once F2P hit.
So i tried again and got the same reply. The live chat is not in my time zone, but will try them.
I can see my account in my account management page, just no characters showing up at log in.
So you can login but there is no characters.?
Did you delete them when you stopped playing or is there a chance you deleted them when you stopped playing.?
If you deleted them when you stopped playing there is a chance they may not be able to restore your characters hence the reason they cannot help you.
Hope you can get back to playing the game soon even if it means starting again. are you EU or US.?

I have just discovered the server I played on was Briarcliff. By the time the live chat comes online I will be asleep
Well might be time to reroll or wait it out. Shame your not on the EU would have tried to help you out to get restarted.
On the game launcher, click 'SETTINGS' and make sure your region is set to North America (Briarcliff is a NA server, right?).
I recently reactivated my 'launch' account with no issue other than not checking that. Had a bit of a panic when no toons showed up
