Guess: What is TTH up to?

Ten Ton Hammer is trying to hype me a bit, and by-gosh they are doing a good job.

How do you feel about comments like this, and what do you think they could offer:

The date of EverQuest Next’s public reveal by Sony Online Entertainment is quickly rushing towards us. During SOE Live, on August 2nd, at noon Pacific, the world of MMORPGs will be changed forever. If you’re not going to be able to make it to SOE Live this year, then listen very carefully to what I say next. You really want to be here when the announcement is made. I can’t say why and I can’t say what may be here (ALLEGEDLY!) but you want to keep your browser pointed to Ten Ton Hammer. As the date gets closer, I’ll be sure to keep everyone informed. (ZOMG, do I know secrets that would kill any normal mortal to contain!)

What kind of goodies do you feel ten ton hammer could provide? or relay? useless hype? Also, I'm probably going to be working at that time, so it better not be 30-minute beta signups.

I chuckle every time I see them use that grouping of words... That's  a pretty bold statement. I have a lot of doubt.

Also in regards to marketing, MMORPG has roughly 2.5 million registered users and 3500+/- guests at any given time. There is big affiliate palms greased when running social media sites like this. I am not sure the amount Tentonhammer has as I do not frequent that domain. This is my one stop shop for MMO News.

I agree about the traffic part indeed DMKano ;)

    Yes, yes they are.

I'm sure the information will be broadcast almost immediately after the reveal by those that are attending the event.  I'll be tuning in, but I won't be spending a couple of hundred for airfare and a hotel to see it live.

Its all part of the Hype Campaign.  I expect Bill to pipe in with something similar here to get the people of MMORPG.com going.

I do agree it could be an empty promise to generate traffic.

Twitch is going to be streaming the discussion on the 2nd (http://www.twitch.tv/everquestnext), TTH could do the same, or reference their stream, but this is expected.  They would need to be promoting something other than a stream, thus my question - free plush Firiona dolls for everyone!

Yeah, that's exactly the thing that came to mind for me as well. Edit: The livestream, not beta giveaways :p

They may do that in addition but that is def not what they are saying given the statement proposed.

"the world of MMORPGs will be changed forever." Wants to be more than that bub. If so, then they shit the bed in my eyes the first morning.

Given the context of the article following that, would bet they're going to be covering StoryBricks integration. Sounds promising that most of the articles written lately have been referencing the first EverQuest more than anything else.

Played: EQ1 (10 Years), Guild Wars, Rift, TERA
Tried: EQ2, Vanguard, Lord of the Rings Online, Dungeons and Dragons Online, Runes of Magic and countless others...
    Currently Playing: GW2

I with you bruvah... this is what needs to be announced in order to achieve that statement in my eyes.

Yeah, SOE may be saving those for the actual SOE Live attendees. If that's the case - I'll be one happy dude!

Maybe the Everquest Next portion of the keynote address begins at 12?

I get it you're a glass half empty guy but this statement if untrue will ruin their credibility. Why would they risk that for a little extra traffic leading up to August 2nd.

I couldn't really care much about if there is a beta key giveaway, given that there most likely won't be since it would be better to just have signups at first, I admit though I would still try to get one, however honestly I'm only interested in console gaming now-a-days.
  • XthosXthos Member UncommonPosts: 2,740

I would think a live stream and beta keys, they will still have sign-ups and such, but say 500 - 1000 keys each for the sites that have been given the preview and will be writing up reviews...Enough that it isn't a flood of players outside of random sign ups.

I am a believer that this is going to release end of this year to first quarter next year, and if they do keys at the event even, I would bet on this year to very early next year.

Not trying to be negative because i love EQ ip and have played the games for 14 years but these sites are the same sites that gave SWTOR glowing reviews and rewards.

I wouldn't believe a word they say, be there on the day and draw your own conclusions.

It won't stop Aug 2nd - there will be more people driven to forums afterwards :)

Call me what you will - I was just pointing out the reality of how both game sites and SoE are benefiting at the same time with EQN hype.

Also the credibility is a very fickle thing as MMO gamers are a fickle lot themselves - case in point Smed, or Jacobs, no matter what was said in the past - it doesn't matter when it comes to a new shiny promise of a MMO.

Many players are so willing to believe in the promise of a new awesome MMORPG, that it doesn't matter what past transgressions the devs behind it had - and that's ok.

I'd rather see Raph at the helm... The two names above I dislike...

I've heard hype before from sites.  I've seen them gloss things over.  I've never seen a site that I would call reputable, make such a bold claim.  The same goes for MMORPG.com

Sure fanboy sites claim this type of crap to this extent all the time.  SWTOR being the main one, along with GW2 of course.  Massively with Rubi fangirl-extreme (whom later went to work for Anet) a good example.  I'm not sure anyone has claimed a game to change the genre before it's even announced.  I mean they aren't even waiting to gauge the public response to see which way the wind blows and respond in kind.  Which is what a lot of sites did for GW2.

This time it's different from my perspective.  Both MMORPG and TTH are putting their asses out there on this one.  It makes me think this goes farther than just some marketing ploy and that there's really 'something' out there to give cred to these claims.

We'll see in a few weeks.

I'm just glad GW2 lived up to the hype and offered most or all what they promised and stuck to it.

I'm not saying GW2 was for everyone, but the game offered exactly what the promo videos said it would, and the pvp, both WvWvW and tPVP has been nothing short of the best pvp experiences I've seen in an MMORPG.

The combat was also really sweet.  Action + complexity, was really cool to see.

I think EQN will be better, but just saying, at least the hype for GW2 was actually real.

Legends of Kesmai, UO, EQ, AO, DAoC, AC, SB, RO, SWG, EVE, EQ2, CoH, GW, VG:SOH, WAR, Aion, DF, CO, MO, DN, Tera, SWTOR, RO2, DP, GW2, PS2, BnS, NW, FF:XIV, ESO, EQ:NL
