Is there a end game gear grind type of thing?

What the title says really, is end game spamming dungeons/raids getting those tokens/marks to get that sweet end game gear?

I think crafting is going to play a HUGE role in endgame. Especially if there are methods to modify existing gear. Progression got bad in WoW 3.X. I can hope that SQEENIX has realized there is more to an endgame than dungeon tokens for Tier 387 gear.

(And no, that wasn't QL 387, it was hyperbole for the number of tier replacement sets)

Granted I have only got up to level 35 so far, but it seems like a moderate mix of the two. We will most likely have to grind for gear but the crafting of materia to place into the items will give a little bit of  the change and customization that people seem to be clamoring for.

OK, Sorry then. But If you look at my previous post, I criticize when WoW went from gear progression to gear treadmil.

I too didn't mind gear progression. It gave a good reason to keep going. When it was reasonable back in Vanilla and TBC WoW.

But after 3.x, it became insanely stupid, and the race was overwhelming. I saw Hunter after Hunter rushing to the AH to buy that tanking rifle that had no DPS stats on it other than the weapon's DPS. When questioned, they'd always reply the same way.

    "Gear Score man"

I just had a chill run through me thinking of that time.

    dunno

If I can't craft it I won't use it. If I suck, then that's how it is going to be. If it's unplayable, I don't play.

This video shows some armor sets, but it is not really an "endgame" preview as much as just random different armor sets throughout the game including crafting, gathering, seasonal event, and other sets.

Upon reaching 50 or close to it you will likely want to obtain the following armor sets for your various jobs.  Roughly in this order, but your experience may vary (you can certainly skip some if you want, and some are better for certain play styles or jobs than others).  These are not the only gear sets that drop, but they are the "premium" sets from most content (that we know of at least).

We haven't seen the loot system in action yet, it has been described like this as of the latest live letters:

Players get a limited # of "Need" rolls per week (possibly per content), when you roll Need and lose you are still awarded Tokens which can be eventually turned in for the actual items that drop from an NPC.

These sets are in addition to affixing multiple forbidden melds to HQ crafting sets which in some situations will be better than gear set items (though likely not as powerful as the rarest and highest tier dropped items).  Most players at endgame will want to use both crafted and dropped pieces for the best results.

Different items have differing #'s of Materia slots, you can go beyond these but you risk losing the materia if it fails.

    http://xivdb.com/?search/materia

    Artifact Armor

You obtain these as you do the group portions of your job quests nearing level 50.

    http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/game/jobs

Crafting/Gathering jobs also have their own quests and Artifact Armor.

    Grand Company Rank Sets

    Order of the Twin Adders

    http://xivdb.com/?search/Serpent

    Immortal Flames

    http://xivdb.com/?search/flame

    Maelstrom

    http://xivdb.com/?search/storm

Darklight (from Aurum Vale and Cutter's Cry 8-man Dungeons)

    http://xivdb.com/?search/darklight

Primal Armor sets and Weapons from (likely in this order, but they were not in beta or 1.0 so we don't know how they differ):

    • Ifrit
    • Moogle King
    • Garuda
    • Titan
    • Ramuh
    • Leviathon
    • Shiva

24 person Raids, progression raid zones with multiple check points

    Crystal Tower

FFIII reference, given the storyline is about the "Warriors of Light" and that is tied into FFIII's storyline as well and this multi leveled dungeon; I'm guessing we will get some warriors of light themed armor sets as well as hopefully unique boss drops that remain relevant.

    Labyrinth of Bahamut

Hardest content in the game, best loot in the game at launch.

    PvP gear Sets:

    https://www.google.com/search?q=pvp+gear+sets+ffxiv&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=DeHkUc_FCqjYywG5h4GIDg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=713&bih=426

    Unknown itemization for confirmed content:

    Beastman Strongholds

EndFATEs such as Behemoth and Odin

Basically if you like collecting gear sets, you are definitely encouraged to do so.  In addition to the focus on them, and the variety a couple of things unique(ish) to this game are:
    • The ability to have any job, craft, profession on any character means you can collect every item in the game.
    • Armoire and NPC Retainers in your house can model them when you aren't wearing them.
    • Massive inventory, with saveable gear sets for easy swapping, and armory chest with 25 spaces per gear slot.

So people who like finding treasure and progressing their character through itemization in RPG's, which I also do personally, the game is attempting to cater to that need heavily.

Yawn, we have had treasure in our RPG's long before your WoW.

Even your precious Guild Wars 2 that was going to revolutionize the way people played RPG's with no gear progression has abandoned that failed and not very well thought out philosophy once they saw how little retention it brought them.

I'm actually excited about this game, and seeing all this armor is making me a bit more excited. I really like the designs they have and with how much you can carry, you can use them for Role Playing if you so desire.

My 'precious' GW2? you are mistaking me with someone else. So your attempt to hurt me is completely wasted.

And yes we had treasures in RPG long before WOW but WOW is the game that made hamster gear treadmill famous. You know it and i know it..everyone else knows it that FFXIV ARR has been remade to cash in on WOW's formula. Denial doesn't change the reality. When the idea of remaking FFXIV was just in it is infancy, YOSHI was pondering and taking surveys regarding implementing more WOW features into FFXIV.

As an MMORPG player I define grind as repeating one piece of content ad nauseum until I no longer find any enjoyment in it.  Playing through a wide variety of content.  Multiple dungeons, guildhests, guildleves, FATE, side quests, class quests, story quests, job quests at any time depending on what I feel like.  With things like level sync, and even the duty finder to help facilitate my freedom of choice.  That doesn't seem very grindy to me.

Now leveling in 1.0 on guildleves alone, or broken party grinding (or hell even fixed party grinding) I could see how that was a grind.  You people are spoiled with the variety of options you are given.

Failed and abandoned eh? Probably that's why there was an outrage when A.net introduced ascended gears, mind you, only the trinkets pieces, and A.net's stopped adding ascended gears since then, yep, definitely failed.

I'm not a hamster, I play for gear for the same reasons I always did in RPG's.  It is fun.  You go out you complete a challenge and you are rewarded with some treasure for it.  It might look neat, it might have stats I want, it might be an upgrade for something I already have.

I very well might pass it to a friend because they want it.  I join groups with complete strangers just to help them get a piece of armor they want.  It feels very much like a human behavior to me.  I kinda feel bad for people who don't see the appeal of all that.

I'm sorry you sound so angry with WoW and FFXIV.  That sounds terrible how Yoshi could do that to a poor infant.  What a monster, if only you had been there to save us from him back then.  You really put a lot of effort into continually pushing the whole "WoW clone" argument.  They seem like pretty different experiences to me.  Anyways, I'll be over here enjoying RPG's with treasure in them as I have long before WoW came out, but please continue to tell me how they are all raped by WoW and I'm just in denial about how much of a slave to the man I am.

It is a very compelling argument and I'm almost convinced.  I think you just need to call me a few more names and you'll win me over to your perspective.

Really you don't think they will add any more?  Everyone I know who still plays it from time to time certainly hopes they will.

I don't get the outrage.  Some people like having something to aim for in their games, I know someone in the past might have hurt you and made you feel bad about not having something in an MMORPG.  But not all players are like that.  The very existence of desirable treasure doesn't take away anything from you.

Oh well different playstyles I guess.  Anyways this game definitely has treasure, lots of gear sets to collect, and lots of progression.  If you find those abhorrent then you can avoid them, but if you can't live in a world where others can have them too I guess this really isn't the game for you.

too bad i think all stuffs in armory gets armor dmg like those you wear.

I don't think it does, I never touched BLM AF in beta 3, but had it in my armory since I liked to run around in it from time to time.  I never saw it drop below 100% when I NPC repaired all armory gear.

Names? who called you names bud? i think you are reading things which aren't even there.

And no i don't need to push any 'WOW clone' argument because that is what FFXIV it is when it comes to its end game. The experince you described is similar to WOW's raiding and the other endless clones which copied it.

I am not angry..this is not how angry individuals type really. Yoshi did what he had to do to bring more players back to FFXIV and the easiest way was to copy WOW's features. I am just calling it what it is.

Isn't everything a "wow clone" now?

I think some people haven't a clue what they are talking about and just like to throw around a tired catchphrase that has become utterly meaningless from overuse.
