seems early acces will be Aug 20., figure a week or so 'maintenance' before that from phase 4 beat (the open beta), and since there is a producers letter scheduled for Aug 8, many people speculating the week after that.

Open Beta will not be before the Live Letter on August 8, 2013.

Expect ONE WEEK of open beta from August 9 - August 16.

There will be 3 days of downtime.

    Early Access if August 20 - 26.

    August 27 is release.

will the open beta be like the full game or will there be some restrictions like only certain races or regions or limited to a certain level?
  • ZizouXZizouX Member Posts: 670

I don't think we'll see the open beta at all. May be one week-end, top.

Open Beta will be after the LIVE letter . It will run 1 week .NDA is lifted . All advancements made in Phase 4 will be saved for launch .

    Phase 4

Phase 4 is an open beta and begins 1-2 weeks after phase 1 ends. This will last 1-2 weeks and anyone will be able to play. Characters created during this phase will carry over to the official launch unless there is a major bug. Content added in this phase include the duty finder, level sync, housing system stress testing and the PvP coliseum. Early access between the open beta and the official launch may be offered and version 1.0 account holders will be allowed to download the retail client for A Realm Reborn for free.

ZizouX is right. The progress from beta phase 4, aka. the open beta carries over.

Note: to participate in the "Open Beta" you do need to fill in a beta application on the ff xiv website before July 22.

Then you need to register your code before July 30

If you do so you will be in the "open beta" and as ZizouX said.. progress from this phase will be carried over.

Oh.. Why limit open beta this way? I'm not against it, just curious.

Well, I can't be bothered anyway.

They'll probably send it in a wave a day or two before open beta starts.

They're also probably doing it this way so they know how many servers they're going to need.  This way people will actually get to play instead of everyone just ending up in a queue for the first 24-48 hours.

Open beta is open, you dont need a key, when open beta starts you just log in and play. The only thing that preordering will get you is being able to play in the early access after open beta.

Well, if that's true, I'm boned. I won't have access to my PS3 til early August, and I wouldn't be able to register my code til then. Sad day.

you can register on the site just not get the ps3 client ready

to be honest I havent ready clear phrases saying you will have to register for OPEN beta, I think they clearly said though everyone in the world can play. but what sort of process to play it? I dont know.

Now for the speculation part, they might require you to register and create an account beforehand, since they plan to have the charecters carry over to release.

For some reason I find it very difficult to find any official news about this game...

    The problems I have...
    • The Lodestone I linked to above is the old version so old, outdated info about the game is mixed in with new info. The new Lodestone won't be open until early access.
    • They don't post all the news about the game on the official game website news section. Instead, you have to watch that, the outdated Lodestone, the FFXIV Twitter feed, the blog, and the beta test forums.
    • As far as I know, you can't watch the Live Letters unless you speak Japanese because they are hosted in Japanese on a Japanese website (Nico Nico). They supposedly will be released for English speaking players, but I can only find the Live Letters from E3.
    • You aren't outright told how to access the beta forums after being accepted into the beta. Here's the link if anyone is lost: sqex.to/mdt
    My expectations...
    • Early Access will be less than a week. (starting on the 23rd/24th)
    • Open Beta will last a week, starting on the 9th and ending on the 16th.
Of course those are only guesses and I could be completely wrong. It seems they don't want to set definite dates so the schedule can be more flexible. If anyone has more accurate info, please lemme know.

Okay I so I applied for beta before phase 1. Haven't heard anything from SE since. Are they mailing out beta registration codes before open beta? Or should I already have one?
  • free2playfree2play Member UncommonPosts: 2,043

Open Beta will apply to anyone with an active SE account I think, you might need a FF14 game code to go with that.

I don't think you can use OBT as a free trial if that's what you are asking.

Look in to it for PS3 users. There are a bunch of codes floating around for them and I have no idea how that system works.

  • Stop spreading misinfo people. Open beta is available to anyone regardless if they bought the game or not. Currently they want people to apply ahead of time and register their code probably to alleviate server congestion later on.

"Until Monday, July 22, 2013 (PDT)

    * On the above date and time, the Beta Tester Application Site will be temporarily closed and will reopen when Beta Test phase 4(final Beta Test) begins."

It's even said it right there that the application page will open again when open beta begins. So start applying so you don't have to bitch later.

  • F2PlagueF2Plague Member UncommonPosts: 232

Okay well here is my problem. I applied for beta before phase 1. Never received anything from SE. Now I try to reapply and cannot use same email. I don't have a code to redeem so should I just make a new email and reapply or do I have a code coming? That's what I need to know.

so reading between the lines there is a good chance the next time we play (OB) the characters we make are the ones that we will use from launch day?

If so thats pretty cool effectively means the game starts from Open Beta right?
