For me it is the SC Shop. Just looking at Vanguard and EQ2 with the SC Shop being ridiculous in both of them. I worry that EQN is going to have the " in your face " SC Shop that offers to many shortcuts.
In Vanguard the SC Shop offers gear and even killed off crafting because of some items that only crafters could make that you would need you can now buy in the shop.
Been awhile since I played EQ2 and honestly I have bought cosmetic items on the SC Shop. But the shop had sooo many things listed that it was ridiculous.
I would be ok if EQN had cosmetic items or keys to unlock chests and the like but not anything that would hurt crafting and especially gear.

Mine probably ties in with yours, OP. It's SOE, there hasn't been a single game they've had that they didn't ruin yet. Maybe Planetside 2, but that's new, you have to give them time. SOE is one of the slowest companies after all lol.
I wouldn't be suprised if they didn't charge you real money for repairs or to be rezzed or to learn skills or to buy the highest gear.
i find EQ2's SC shop completely harmless. I would absolutely HATE having to buy chest keys from SC shop like in Neverwinter and games that have that setup. EQ2 just has appearance items and you can get plenty of good appearance items in-game. Plus you can easily buy SC with in-game earned plat.
I have a couple of main worries:
1. It will be almost entirely a solo game - the latest EQ2 expacs have all been going in this direction, they don't even make group shared dungeons or group quests anymore, all solo except for the group & raid instances. The group content is still good, but i don't want ALL quests i nthe game to be solo.
2. it will have Global Cooldown combat. This is probably as close to a game-breaker as it gets for me. I can get behind all kinds of different combat systems, but GCD just kills any fluidity of combat for me and makes combat not fun.
3. It won't have Ratonga. It may be shallow, but i would really miss my favourite EQ race if it ends up not included

My biggest fear is GW2 style PR. Lots of talk about how innovative and dynamic and world changing their game is only for the reality to fall far far short.
I would very much prefer if game companies would start under selling and over delivering rather than boasting that they've cured cancer when all they did was use a sponge bob band-aid.
This is a good point, I worry more that the 'forum whiners' will make this an all access easy mode game, which is exactly what the genre does not need at this point...or ever again imo. I feel like it may be a bit early to start worrying about my issue, as we have not even seen an alpha demo yet. Only time will tell.
If you want a new idea, go read an old book.
In order to be insulted, I must first value your opinion.

i don't quite understand this.. in my experience in EQ2, healing while you dps is far from mindless and actually more involved than healing while not DPSing - the best healers are able to do both well.

As long as having a sub gives you those things and it's similar to EQ2 I don't care. If they take the route of supposed "better" models I'll start to worry.
I loved healing in eq2. Healers still had a primary role of healing. Since then, played a couple of games where healing became a side effect of only smashing the bad guys.
Not all who wander are lost...
this........
I have seen WAY worse cash shops then the SoE ones. Don't exactly get what the issue here is. Actually i think the hybrids SoE offers are the best ftp models i saw up to now. This is the only reason i even consider playing EQ Next, even tho it is said to be FTP.
That being said: i HATE free to play models. Really hate them. I don't want a cash shop, AT ALL. So i guess my biggest fear will come true and i have to deal with it. Hoping the game is good enough to forget about the cashgrabbing.
The next biggest flaw an MMO can do? Consoles... really. Dumbed down controls, annoying UI and all that stuff while playing ON A PC just makes me scream and log off for good.
MMOs finally replaced social interaction, forced grouping and standing in a line while talking to eachother.
Now we have forced soloing, forced questing and everyone is the hero, without ever having to talk to anyone else. The evolution of multiplayer is here! We won,... right?
I have only 2 worries:
Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!
Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!
Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!
That there will be instancing.
Or quest based leveling.
Or progression based raiding.
Wait, how does PvP ruin immersion? Lack of PvP would seem to ruin immersion. "Why can't I just stab that guy and suffer the consequences?" It can ruin your day, but not your immersion.
I come from same Earth, and on mine, the instances of OW FFA PvP actually ocurring are extremely rare and most times result in the participants being banned from playing for several years. So a system that totally disallows FFA PvP actually results in a world closer to that Earth than a system that leads to constant OW FFA PvP. Of course the IDEAL system would be one where you CAN kill anyone, anywhere, but with a high chance of being banned from the game for 10 years. And i mean, "ideal" in terms of creating immersion, I am not sure how much fun it would be for anyone involved.

Because - as per my point above - most games lack the RL-equivalent of "suffering the consequences". Which in turn leads to a disproprtionate amount of a behaviour that is otherwise intolerable.

This. The action combat stuff is really no fun for me. I don't have the energy to constantly move my avatar from here to there twitching around every time I play. I hope it to be something similar to the sandbox style of Darkfall but without their combat system.
There are so many fantastic elements lost from the games of old. Bring those elements back minus the twitch and I'll be a happy camper.
