GW2 servers and PVE?

I am interested in trying out GW2 but can't see if they have a PVE only server. I have zero interest in PvP and usually avoid PvP centric games. GW2 looks good though but almost every post I see at MMORPG about it references how dull PvP is.  Since I don't care for PvP anyway that's not an issue for me.

Playing Now: The Secret World, Guild Wars 2, Neverwinter

Playing soon: Landmark beta, Swordman beta

Don't worry, GW2 has no interest in PvP either. :)

Haha jokes/jabs aside its pretty much a pure PvE game. PvP only takes place in 'battle grounds' they have or in World vs World which are option things. That being said if you want just pure PvE... I might hesitate on buying the game and search and see if theres enough stuff to entertain you given how much spare time you have to play. Its not exactly the most meeting game with content and things to do, and unless you fall in love with its combat system, you probably will end up putting it down once you hit max and find you don't really have anything you want to do.

Highly suggest waiting for a free trial weekend to test it out. You can tell within ~30 minutes if you like the game or not as it doesn't change very much as you progress and by 30 you pretty much have what combat is minus a few odd details. Given you like it, then I'd say being PvE focused you will find no problems having to deal with PvP at all. :)

I wouldn't take anything anyone has to say about any MMO seriously on this site.

If it's not EQ1 or EVE, it's garbage to the majority here.

To answer your question; PVE and PVP are completely separate.

Guild Wars games have never added PvP mixed with PvE. GW2 all servers are PvE. IF you want to do PvP you hit the option to join PvP. If you dont join PvP you will never see PvP.  So you are good to go.

As others have said PvP is in dedicated locations only.

As far as servers go Tarnished Coast tends to be thought of as the really big PvE server. Stormbluff Isle is a bit smaller but also has an excellent community.

Some say the only end game content is PvP. Just not enough there to keep you in the long run unless you like cute updates every once and again but those are band aids. The review here is pretty spot on.

The thing about GW2 is that it can be a strictly PVP or PVE game depending on how you choose to play, regardless by what server you choose.  You will never have to mix either play styles if you don't want, but if one so chose, they could level up exclusively in WvW if they wanted to with out doing PVE and of course PVE without stepping foot into WvW.

Just make sure you know what the game mechanics are before you buy it.  Some people supposedly claim/act like they were blind sided by what the mechanics of the game and have been posting in every single thread since, no matter the topic,  making sure that we all know they don't like the game and try to give us all reasons on why we shouldn't either.

Yes, you will ever see people posting bad things about GW2. The strange thing is that if you look the user rating of GW2 at this site, it is 8.6 (the MMORPG rating is 9.3). Nothing bad.

The game is PvE. You can enter an arena for sPvP or a batteground for WvW (RvR). Both options for PvP make you instantelly level 80, any level you have.

The PvE game is not like WoW and WoW-clones. There is no holly trinity, and do'nt care what the people that not play it say, there is no holly trinity or any substitute.

The max level is 80 and the life starts at level 80. Not the raid style life, "non stop raiding for get better gear for make more raids". The carrot is diferent and they offer more than one carrot.. People look for "skins" that give a cool appearance to your toon. At level 80 is easy get the almost best stats, exotic gear (you can buy it from other players relativelly cheap, you can craft it, you can gain it with dungeons tokens, or karma points or WvW coins, etc.). Higher stats gear are the ascended (jewelery) that you can get from fractal dungeons or from WvW and legendary weapons, that it is very hard to get (damed be you mystical toilet). Anyway, until the end of year both the ascended and the legendary items will be possible to be crafted, but problably they will need a long grind for be crafted becauyse the mats will be crazy.

Almost everything you do give PvE xp: explore, harvest nodes, craft, kill mobs, jump puzzles. Be warned that the fastest way to get xp is completing the Dynamic Events. That are not the hearts you see at map, that hearts are only for show the area mobs level. Complete the hearts only if you want the 100% map completion, you can skip them tottally if you want it. IF YOU SEE A DYNAMIC EVENT AT MAP, RUN TO IT!

You can go to ANY zone and be automatically downlevel to get xp from that zone. So, I advice you go to all 5 racial starter zones for some time. Each starter zone have some cool things for you see. It is easy, go to your city, get the asura gate to Lions Arch, then get an asura gate to any other city.

At level 80 you will do'nt have all zones explored, but you gain xp because you are downlevel to taht zone level. There are too Orr and Southsun, that are the level 80 zones, butr mobs there are not easy. Each new level after 80 is a new skill point.

There are no competition for mat nodes and no competition for mobs, more players for completing the event is better.

COMBAT: learn to dodge. Learn WHEN dodge. Learn to change weapons middle combat. Learn to self heal and when self heal.Train all weapons disponible to your class and look for the better combination of weapon skills for your tastes. And again, LEARN TO DODGE.

Choose the class you think you like. No tanks (no taunts, so big armor is not use for protect other players) and no healers. Diferent skills for diferent dps and mob control and self heal. I advice that engineer and mesmer are hard classes to learn how to play, so maybe be better skip them when starting.

I advice you give attention to the living world event that happen each 2 weeks. Nice rewards from them.

You can wait the game have a new free weekend for test it, but I really advice you buy it. No subscription, it is the same price you will pay for a console game, you can play GW2 for some time and if you get bored you can stop to play it for some time for return later. The dollar for hours of play compensates you buy GW2 if you make it your main MMO or not.

TC is great for PvE.  But the thing is, it's also great for WvW (at the top of Tier 2).  The two aren't mutually exclusive.

It's also the unofficial RP server, so it has the best of all worlds.  (Except for maybe sPvP, where I hear Anvil Rock is the unofficial sPvP server).

Rithwis, Righteous Golem of Camelot | Skritha, Orc Archer of Tamriel | Bloodwod, Sawbones of Auraxis | Thrumdi, Blue Norn of Tyria | Gwidwod, Spider of the Ettenmoors | Gideon Slack, Hunter of Alsius

I to don't care for PVP at all.. Guild Wars 2 has NO PVP if you don't want it. All Servers are PVE-Only. You have to enter a PVP area, there is no area in the entire game where you are required to PVP.

Its pretty great keeping the PVP'ers FAR WAY from the PVE'ers

JARP, all servers in GW2 are PvE only servers. It's from the servers that you can step into PvP areas if you wish, either World vs World or structured PvP (think arenas). But those are purely optional. All PvP in GW2 is consensual and fully segregated from the PvE worlds.

    Oderint, dum metuant.

    THIS.

The ignore all the other grumpy useless responses.

Your only homework is identifying which servers are high/mid tier(so you dont get to play alone).

I am on dragonbrand which is mid tier and you always get someone to play around.

    now: GW2 (11 80s).
    Dark Souls 2.
    future: Mount&Blade 2 BannerLord.
    "Bro, do your even fractal?"
Recommends: Guild Wars 2, Dark Souls, Mount&Blade: Warband, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning.
