SOE want to make sure they are able to cement EQN's features as being from that game in the minds of the general mmo culture, so we get "EQN" clones and not "Titan" ones flooding the market in 5 yrs.

It would appear Blizzard was lucky they didn't steal ideas from EQ2...

IIRC some vocal hardcore raider raised a stir and got flown out to SOE headquarters to see EQ improvements and also what EQ2 was like. Unfortunately, he had already been hired by Blizzard before he got to SOE for his meeting to discuss his rantings on his forums. Corporate espionage ensued.

So is it pure (blind) hype?

No one knows anything about the game?

    Is that?

    o.O

Facts about the game so far.

-It's going to have some sandbox features. (specifically, we don't know yet, but there will be User Generated Content)

-Largest Sandbox ever made* (Probably refers to the amount of land-mass players will be able to play on)

-There are going to be alternate ways to fully play the game outside of adventuring (IE crafting won't be a side thought, and maybe other types of non-adventuring play and will play just as big a part in the game as adventuring)

-It's going to be set in an EQ theme, but not in the same timeline/universe as original EQ and EQ2.  It's going to be a "Reboot".  Think like Tim Burton Batman VS the Dark Knight.

-It's going to have OWPVP (either in separate PVP areas, or possibly anywhere).  If there is FFA OWPVP any time any place, there will be PVE and PVP servers to pick from.

-It's using the forgelight engine (Like Planetside 2).

-The graphics look good. (Zbrush screen shot even untextured is impressive)

-They're is going to be some way to change classes.  Possibly a respec option, or a way to freely level up all classes in some way (like FFXI), or something similar.

-It's going to be F2P but not P2W.

-All the original EQ classes will be in the game.

-Release is going to be this year.  Sometime between August 2nd and December 31st, 2013.

I'm sure there is more, but that's the bulk of the facts.

    speculation, not facts

    havent seen anything concrete yet

    They are being purposefully vague.

We also know StoryBricks is involved

Thanks, Strangiaoto, for pointing out the speculative assumptions made here.   I find it rather amusing the amount of diversity we MMORPG posters have with a very limited number of concrete, factual statements.   While I believe many things about EQN, I am aware that my expectations aren't facts.  Of all the things marked as speculation, the only one I'd have to side with Gallus on is the idea that there will be some kind of release this year.  That seems pretty factual, not speculation.

But Gallus has the basic facts covered, minus the speculation.

Logic, my dear, merely enables one to be wrong with great authority.

Even the release date is a bit sketchy.  I was pretty confident that it was going to be out this year because of that Smedley quote but Telondariel pointed out in another thread some good reasons why even that isn't necessarily reliable.

link to that thread and discussion: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/389850/page/1

edit: I am personally still hopeful, the game could be completely finished and tested and ready to roll with an Aug 3rd release date for all we know.  Unlikely yes, i'm not arguing it is ready, but we just don't know anything.

You have 14 Days. If after that time the Plane is not properly tuned, I am deleting my characters, and cancelling all of my accounts. The rest of my guild will follow suit, as will several other guilds and people that play Everquest.

To be brief, I did not work my ass off, jumping through your idiotic hoops with my friends and guildmates, so I could go to a zone where only groups of 18 could enjoy the content. EVEN if past these initial moronic events I can finally get my entire guild in to raid with me, FUCK YOU GUYS. Seriously, FUCK YOU.

I cannot believe this... right now I'm just so pissed off. I am sitting here in the Plane of Time, and 3/4 of my guild is just sitting around while a group of 18 is repeatedly trying to beat one of the mini ring encounters. Don't you people have ANY FUCKING DECENCY? SMEDLEY WHY DON'T YOU STOP COUNTING YOUR MONEY AND START ISSUING ORDERS?

The tragic irony of creating the ultimate cockblock encounter in the form of the Rathe which requires 80 people to defeat and then to limit encounters in the Plane of Time to 18.

14 Days.... after that this site will change from the most popular EQ fan site on the internet to the most popular World of Warcraft fan site on the internet. I'm done playing ball with you useless fuckers... it's my turn.

If you want to know what EQN will be, I can tell you...

Start with a FreeRealms base. (I know alot of people dont know what FreeRealms is, because its a kids game, but it has alot of depth and alot of sandbox features.) EQN will have a larger open world, but I feel confident in saying it will follow alot about this game. Things like the open class system, where you can change to any class at any time, and possibly even the crafting and harvesting minigames. Something I think is missing from most all other MMOs, and its extremely easy to implement, and makes crafting both fun and worthwhile at the same time.

Throw in a "Neverwinter Foundry" system based off the storybricks design. This is going to be the world building tools for players. If youve seen storybricks, you know how powerful this toolset can be. Add in the Neverwinter design of adding instances and player created content directly into the existing world, and EUREKA. Remember SOE has already played with player created content in the form of the "Design your own Dungeons" system in EQ2 (awsome if you havent seen it yet), the best housing system in any modern MMO to date (Full sandbox building, from an empty lot, and "blocks" you can literally build anything you can think of) and now the Player Studio, where players can create their own unique items, add them to the game world, and sell them on the cash shop (Station Marketplace) to other players. All these systems were just testing grounds for EQN.

Create a more adult world than FreeRealms ala ArcheAge. Although FreeRealms has alot of the features many MMOers are looking for, the fact that its a kids game turns players off before even trying it. Making it appeal more to adults, but still keep its openness and flexibility is key.

TL;DR  So there you have it. A more adult themed FreeRealms with a player created "foundry" for content. Thats EQN in a nutshell.

***Of course this is speculation, but for some reason, I seem to be the only one mentioning it. All these other threads are spouting useless quotes, and dated interviews. Oh and of course all the "polls" that will have no impact on the game, since its already been made. Its fun to ask other players what they "hope" the game will have, but it doesnt mean anything to the developers. I sincerely love doing all the polls on this site, because its interesting to see what players want, or at least what they think they want. So enjoy my unique ideas on what it could be, and decide if you think its better or worse than other peoples speculations. And we can all compare notes this weekend, once its all revealed :)

I know who it was but I am not saying. I will take your word for it. Slander can be pretty litigious these days.

I would also add that you gotta love Blizzard for hiring someone that instigated the crashing of servers and another player named Tigole Bitties as primary developers for the game they made where they ban players for such activities as doing a level 1 40 man hogger raid because it causes server instability and atrocious character names. If what you said was true I am sure that Tigole and probably Pardo were there as well.

Who is to blame? SOE? I suppose so. Who do I judge? Those that reported back to Blizzard. I will add that I am not privy to any NDA that may or may not have been in effect, so it may be a moot point if SOE was ignorant and didn't have one. C'est la vie.
