Speaking of which, its pretty obvious you certainly aren't grasping the point or understand the above mechanics added such complexity to combat, and your lively, active "fun" combat has been reduced to mindless button pushing on a limited selection of keys.

But go ahead and enjoy your "one weapon" might as well just bend over and say "thank you sir, may I please have another"

That just means it had sandbox elements in it.

Complexity my ass.  These games merely had the illusion of being complex and difficult.  In reality their mechanics were watered down to the point of being meaningless and all the 'challenges' were merely tedious tasks that took a long time to complete.  It was all an illusion!

    No, no it wasn't.

Besides, you weren't even there, how would you know? You probably grew up on WoW.

Sorry, but that is just nostalgia talking.

Sort of like when Faux News talk about the golden 50s in the US.

You make it sound like people cannot have nostalgia about awesome things. Not everything is black and white.

Games have become overly simplified, and it's mainly obvious to those of us who have seen a plethora of games come and go. Some of those things that have been done away with could have simply been expanded or improved upon without getting rid of them entirely. Also, there's the matter of weights and balances. Just because a feature seems tedious, does not mean it is unnecessary to the overall wellbeing of the game. Fast travel, insta porting and flying mounts for example.

I feel like removing the option of using multiple weapon types per class is a step in a similar direction.

What you call oversimplified I call making a game better.  Complex things have to be explained in some way for people to understand.  Those old games didn't do that.  They threw you into an environment with a ton of made up rules that the new player wasn't aware of.   That isn't true complexity, because if someone could sit down and explain the rules to them in 15 minutes.

Real complexity takes place in raids!  You go into a fight with 40 people who know the basic rules of the game, and you have to develop a strat to kill said boss.  You take those 40 people and you assign them different tasks that can change on a seconds notice.  You wipe for hours until you hone your strat down, and then eventually you kill the boss.  That is real complexity.

When everyone knows the rules, then the game is fair.  You thought you were a good player, but you just had an unfair advantage.  I know, I was one of those people too.
