so long as i'm saying "froak" i'm happy but i do hope for a froggi shaman.
FROAK!!!!
RIP Ribbitribbitt you are missed, kid.

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and not clothed.
Classes are in. They will be more like the selection from the original EQ, rather than the split classes of EQ2.
Stay tuned for more accurate details in 7 days.
Is there a definitive statement about this? Or are we just basing this off of there being a panel at the SOE event titled "classes?"
Well what else could that mean? Are they going to teach not one but multiple classes on some topic? Did they name it Classes simply to obfuscate the real subject matter of that panel?

I have no idea what all it could mean. It doesn't matter to me though as I just wanted to know if there was some info somewhere I missed on the game, which it turns out there is. I'm not ashamed to say i'm anxious for new information.
I doubt they were trying to obfuscate anything though by naming the panel this way, but crazier things have happened in the world.

There is at least one thread here with a vid link of Smed talking about EQN classes at a Fan Faire panel. They're in.
Where? Druid mention is the only confirmation afaik (besides the panel thing of course.) They do talk about ff14 somewhere I believe Pax East maybe? That's where people are getting the whole switching classes thing.

I think Nadia posted the YouTube link I am referring to. Ask her nicely and she might be able to find it for you. It is the one where Smed is on a panel, and he is discussing how EQN will have fewer classes than EQ2 and be much more akin to the original EQ.
It's basically confirmed by Georgeson that you'll have the ability to swap classes/roles somehow in the game. How easy/hard it will be to do is unknown. I hope you can't just flip a switch go from tank to healer. I'm leaning more towards it'll be a slow change and you'll have to work on your new healing abilities to level them up over time while your tanking abilities degrade. The process of swapping from tank to healer or any other role should (imo) take like 2 weeks or more but still be a bit easier than rerolling a new char entirely. You can swap as many times as you want but it should take time and effort to do so. Not just be a willynilly "Oh we're short healers for raid tonight? Let me push a button"
Video where Georgeson explains it link below. Skip to 45:50 if the link doesn't autoskip. If you turn the volume up listen after he says "We'll be pushing that a lot further" the guy next to him says "In EQ Next?" and Georgeson says "In EQNext" and laughs. That's as close to a confirmation as we're gonna get pre-Aug 2nd.

thanks for the link I was looking for it.
Although, I think people are putting a bit too much of their own "ideas" in what Georgeson said.
He said that players invested in a single character shouldn't be limited to a single class. They should be able to play the role they want as opposed to make another character . He also says that there are ways to balance it so people have access to more choices and make it fun for the player and that they will be pushing that a lot further.
The only thing we can infer from this is that your character in EQN will be able to perform multiple roles. The system to do so might not be class switching.
Would like to see multiple roles for classes based on changeable specs, but I don't want to see complete changes to characters like in Rift.
So the following would be fine:
Shadowknight speccing for tanking or DPS
Paladin speccing for tanking or heals
Rogue speccing for tank or DPS
Predators speccing for DPS or utility (debuffs)
And so on, filling various roles while staying true to the class and its lore.
The following would annoy the crap out of me:
Monk pressing a button and magically becoming a wizard.
Assassin pressing a button and magically becoming a cleric.
While its feasible that someone could fulfil multiple roles within their chosen discipline, its not feasible that a monk could suddenly know how to cast magical spells or that a necromancer would suddenly become a devout cleric.

This heavily relies upon trinity, and defining rigid classes to spec them later. At this point after their 'We are changing everything' talk, i'm expecting new class definitions, one we may not be able to place in our current cookie-cutter concept of classes. At least, that is the hope.

Are we sure he is referring to druid in the currently familiarized class sense? As long as the characters lore matches up, he can call it a druid, but it may not act like or play like anything we have seen in current fantasy mmo.
I personally want classes. Letting everyone do every things just makes you feel completely replaceable and unimportant. Who needs me when anyone else can just switch stats and fill in? The whole point of a role playing game is to have distinct roles to play. None of this switching classes at will stuff either, you won't feel any connection to your role if you don't have to make a real commitment to it. Devs should focus on making new and unique roles for us to do, rather than trying to literally remove the one thing that makes an RPG what it is. That's my two-cents anyway.

As a Tank I know your pain. Their idea of "freedom" is to force everyone into doing damage. Never understood how that idea actually got into a design meeting let alone the actual game.

i love the trinity class system. everyone has their own purpose and role in a group.
back in eq1 days. you could be well known in your server, as a great , ok , mediocre or plain bad player, for how well you played your class.
