I sure hope there is something in place to prevent this. Would hate to see buy my plat messages going accross my screen. Worse would be running up to a node and to see a train of players on auto folllow with some wierd foreign name.If this happens i could lose interest real fast in game i have been waiting on what seems forever.

Fine, we'll compromise. I'll get my way & you'll find a way to be okay with that.
There will be 4x as many in any F2P than P2P too.
How about they allow bot farming?
As in anyone detected using no-no software or spamming gets turned into a open world pvp target, complete with a helpful position icon on the map for those of us that don't like asking for directions. Then you can form parties that just go around earning PK points wiping out Chinese hackers, it could be called a hacker hunt, the ultimate in dynamic event satisfaction. I'd sub for that, wouldn't you?
You hear that Smed!!

If there is a way to make money botting or selling gold, there is almost nothing that can be done to stop it. A vigilant GM staff and vigilant players who report botting is the only way to curb it.
Players caught buying gold should be banned just the same as those botting in the first place. With a Cash Shop there should be a way to purchase gold or similar currency legally.

Is there anyone who is pro bot farming?
...excluding the people in the bot farmin' business, of course.
....Being Banned from MMORPG's forums since 2010, for Trolling the Trolls!!!
If an MMO is popular, it will have many bots, it doesn't matter if the game is P2P or F2P. The more successful EQN is, the more bots there will be in game.
There was a time when EQ2 had a very large surge of gold selling spam in the global chat. I'm not sure what they did, but they completely stopped it. I'm assuming it was a filter of some sort. Bots themselves would rarely be seen, and the GM's were very responsive to reports and handing out bans. They were very effective.
Hopefully they are equally on the ball when EQN launches.
Accounts selling gold can be banned forcing them to create another with membership in a P2P. I'm not saying they won't do it but it costs them money to make another to spam from.
nothing cant be done. every mmorpg has bots/chinese farmers/hackers.
Just ingore them. playing many years mmorpgs make me blind to see them:)
I have heard of bot farmers buying thousands of base warcraft and things like that. It really doesn't seem to matter. I guess if you mean more casual people will try to bot if it's F2P, I can see that.
"Casual" do not bot, getting your account banned is a big deterrent, it also require to be tech savvy and to know where to find the scripts for it. Botters mostly use hacked accounts as well.
GW2 had a big bot farming problem at release (most new hyped games do), but Anet took 2 months to analyze what they were doing and using. I haven't seen one since (although apparently some still exist). I also suspect that the gold-4-gems system work as intended and most people who would buy from a gold-site are actually buying from Anet.
As for EQN, if the game is as dynamic as they claim, bots will have an hard time.
if there were active moderators they could indeed cut down on the bot spam.
i still dont see why game companies do not do this.
over 20 years of mmorpg's and counting...
Casual was probably the wrong word to use. But, I have seen people actively discuss using bots and how to find them, not knowing that bot programs are bannable.
thats because of certain game mechanics EQ1 had.
The answer is in a more dynamic and challenging world, with heavy deathpennalty (EQ style) and less predictable mobs.. combined with a system aka EQ2, that levels people down to a max level for the zone like EQ2 did.. (system allso makes sure that all content will be somewhat challenging and fun to do at all time.. as you cant outlevel content anymore.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
+1
There is another problem,if RMT find a market for crafting they will ruin the entire economy.
This happened in Vanguard right early on.Players through rmt ,either buying gold or buying the rares flood the market early and reap all the rewards. Then all those out there doing it legit and putting in the time have to join the market after it is flooded and get little return on their efforts.
I remember the best early bags in VG were selling 50+ gold to those who cheated and got hold of tons of rares, then by time i worked my way to market,i had to sell them for 7-8 gold, barely even a profit.
So it is not only the bot farming but even if the RMT are legit farming.
IMO the best way to fix this is make rares nontradable and definitely no allowing players to send /shouts to buy loot rights, that was such a stupid idea SOE allowed because they don't know what they are doing.Selling loot rights defeats the purpose of making items non tradeable.Do NOT allow players to bid on loot if they join after loot is in the pool.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
LOL love it.
Yeah , that would be fun.
Or how about every time you kill a mob or mine a node there is an x,y,z coordinate and timestamp check and if you kill too many mobs without moving , a dragoon paths over to you and attacks. any not botter would run , any botter would die haha
and for mining if you are doing like they do in GW2 now where you mine a node disappear and appear instantly at another and mine it , the timestamp could flag the bot and have a dragoon appear the next time that person made a jump
maybe for goldsellers , instead of banning accounts , they could bann IPs , not that that would eliminate it completely.
the whole ,there have always been botters and goldsellers , theres nothing that can be done about it , welcome to MMOs, attitude just completely baffles me
But it seems more and more like people would rather avoid a problem than fix it
That was be exploited. And would still mess up economy.
Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Do I want a bunch of farmer bots running around all up in mah lands, killin mah mobs? No.
Do I enjoy farming farmer bots who pick a terrible spot to farm in a PvP area? Yes
Do I enjoy trolling farmer bots by killing each mob it goes to, thus ruining its farming experience? Yes
If there is a way to make money with little effort, people will always take advantage of it. That is just how it is. The community and the GM's must police to make it more difficult, in turn making them move on to something else that requires less effort.
This post is just proof of how ridiculous some people's expectations become. They can't split the nile for you, they can't stop something that's been around since the genre's conception, they can't magically create features that cater to each and every single individual within the game. They will of course keep botting from becoming a major problem, but then people will just complain about all of the banning. I remember when people kept exploiting bugs in Neverwinter, not telling the devs, and then complaining that the bugs were there. On top of all of that, when they banned the idiots for directly going against the terms and agreements by beeing not only unhelpful to the beta test but detrimental to it, everyone started complaining and calling them nazis.
I suppose this is one thing factional PVP territorial control is good for.
If a faction Ebay's all their ore off, they are ripe for "eviction".
