Don't think I have seen this here yet, so I though I would make one.
I know the armory system makes it easy to switch, but which class are you planning on focusing to 50 first?

You're missing 20 other classes in that poll
well.. im not including crafting or gathering.. because those arn't adventuring classes.
Also jobs are kinda self explainitory if you are getting that class to 50 right away.

Are you making a male or female character?
Dragoon is my #1 goal, as I want to focus on playing a DPS class in an MMO for once instead of tank/heals.
Warrior is probably #2 (as I like the idea of big 2H Axe tanking instead of Sword+Board)
and then maybe Black Mage as an Elemental Shaman in WoW was/is still one of my favorite classes of all time.
aawwww man... i loved my ele shaman too. Best class ever

Oh man, as soon as I started thinking about Ele Sham I started doubted my decision to roll Dragoon first...
I would take your poll but I'm confused...
Considering that those base classes split into different classes or unlock a specialized class, I don't think anyone will be leveling (or even "can"?) level those to 50.
I.e. Conjurer will not go to 50, but White Mage can
Arcanist can't go to 50, but Scholar or Summoner can... etc.
Am I wrong or Right?
Anyways, every video i watch changes my mind a little bit, but I think either way I'm going to be a healer or support role because I'm always Tank or DPS in other MMO's and I'm feeling a lot more "helpful" this time around.
So, I'm thinking Hume female or Mithra (female) and going either White mage or Bard.
BTW, forgive the race terms, I'm not used to the ludicrous name change of the races in ARR. I will be calling them Hume, Elvaan, Mithra, TaruTaru, Galka and that's the end of it. The name changes were a stupid idea, and I can say that while simultaneously having an erection for this game.
I played an Elezen pugilist in 1.0 and a Hyur lancer in Closed Beta
So for open beta and release, I think I'll give a Roegadyn (Hellsguard) Thaumaturge a try
(I won't play Miqo'te because they will be too common, whilst Lalafell are far too cute for my taste)

From my understanding all classes goto 50, but you can equip an orb you get through a quest to turn into your job.
Maybe classes cant goto 50, i dont know for sure. But what ever, just have fun with the poll.

All classes can goto 50. Classes give more freedom in using skills from other classes and best for soloing or small teams. Jobs are more focused and more for teamed/raid events.
Exactly this.
Only around 40 people have voted on that poll. I would not take it as worth anything at this point.
So, how do you then distinguish between leveling up your say Gladiator as opposed to Paladin when they use the same weapon and active class/job is determined by weapon?
I know there is a gem or something thta looks like a gem you use to switch classes. Maybe jobs have something as well. To be honest I have wondered the same thing.
The simple answer? There is no difference. Your paladin will always be the same level as your Gladiator. You can unlock Paladin at level 50 gladiator and it will be level 50. The only use for jobs in the game is group content. Same goes for SMN and SCH. You could level your Anarchist to level 30 and unlock both SMN and SCH, level your anarchist to 50 never touching either job and they will both be 50 when you equip the job stones.
Since when is Tuesday a direction?
I can't wait.
This is fantastic, and so well thought out. I really loved the subjob system in FFXI and I was a bit let down that they didn't keep it, but now I finally have a full understanding of the new "Armory System" and I really dig it. I see what they did.
There is, however, one part of the system I'd like a clearer understanding of. When I'm a class, say, Conjurer, and I have it at level 20, and let's say I also have a Thaumaturge at 20, while I'm active on either one, how many of the other's abilities can I equip on my bar? What are the limits? I assume there is some way to make sure that you can't just use all of another class' abilities while on a different one.
would love an answer to this
If that was actually a class in XIV I would totally play that
1 spell/skill per 5 levels is what I read. So if you are level 10 you can have 2 skills from another class you leveled.
