Are they a bad character? Why don't i hear much about them? From what i have heard, there aren't much mesmers out there. Mainly my question is, do mesmers suck??
depends on what you like to play, they are more of a backround character-- they like enfeeble the enemy and stuff (haven't actually played the game, but read a lot of info on it) apparent ly there was am issue of them being too weak in PvP but i read they made them better... much better... in fact making people downright fear them due to the fact that the dabilitate enemies immensly.
Mesmers rock in PvP. Seriously. They are the best class at taking down Monks. Have you heard people complaining about some teams having too many Monks? They were probably trying to kill them with pure damage and not enough interruption and/or energy denial. Backfire is useful too, especially against newbie casters. Cast Backfire and watch them cast themselves to death.. A well played Mesmer can be a pain for two Monks at the same time.
They're not as useful in general PvE though. So for my first character I went Monk/Mesmer so I could level quick and easily (everyone wants Monks in their group), and at the same time I could unlock Mesmer skills for PvP.
Honestly, Mesmers have gotten several nerfs in the past few weeks compared to the way they were in early Beta Weekend Events. Still my favorite profession.
somehow i also see N/Me or Me/N as unstoppable. N (Necro) can do the same thing if the player use Curse. The N/Me or Me/N combo is very nerf. From what I saw in PvP, a Warrior was down in 5 sec (may be a bit long by a sec or two.). If you set the stats right, it is hard to beat it unless everyone gang up on it.
Im playing Mesmer/ranger and so enjoy it, i been able to solo most of the mission , in pvp i can take down warrior or caster easy, like somone said backfire against player that are not carfull is prety dangerous killinga monk or elmentalis in less then 4 sec , so fun to see them try to heal themself or kill you with there spell while ther health bar go down at a crasy rate. (backfire deal like 100 damage to a caster when he cast a spell for 10 sec)
for warrior i dont run i cast myself troll onguant (regen + 5 with my attribut for 10 sec) then i cast empahty(when they hit someone the deal damage to them self) on them + ether feast to get my hp up and sometime energy burn to deal more damage to them, and they go down by them self lol.
also agains other mesmer or necro i bring shater hex if for exemple they cast a hex spell on a member in my team i shater it in there face and sometime deel 110 damge to a group of 3 player.
so basiquely a mesmer can be prety good if you know how to play it .
For now i play domination mesmer since this is what i have more interesting skill in but later i may change for a beter build, so easy with atribut refund.
edit ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ the class i have usaly more dificulty to get down is ranger and warior(when they use skill that prevent me to cast).
I started out a Mes/Mo in the retail game and have enjoyed it. I frankly found it a little hard to get started, and thought about abandoning it, but now I'm level 12 or so and my Shatter Hex actually does a fair bit of damage. The timing can be tricky and if you are playing with a Monk on the team, you have to catch the hex before the monk does, or it's just a wasted spell. I find Mesmer to be one of the more difficult classes to play.
cool.. i got me a Me/Mo and they are awesome! They got the best spells and they just own... i use Banish(monk spell), Phanta, and shatter, and slow move... it just owns
Definatly slow move for those warriors and just hex the hell outta them =P
I'm a lvl 13 Ranger/Mesmer, worst combo in the world... for now.
Mesmer doesn't suck, well it does, just at low levels, once you get up there and unlock a lot more skills it will get a lot better. Other professions can/are good off the start, mesmer just takes some patience.
ye. Mesmers arent nukers or dam dealers. They are the dudes standing in the back keeping the enemy monk outta the game and making sure that everyone is getting real annyed about not having any mana because hes leeching them

They are über anti-casters. Casters are like butter against mesmers.

Mesmers can be really effective against warriors too. Spirit shackles, mind wrack, shatter enchantment among others can really wreck a W/Mo's flow.
there awsome
im a monk/mesmer, and i use mesmer to protect myself from warriors since mesmer skills ingore amror.
its quite a character

mesmers play a very important role when you get into PvP's and i mean, they make the biggest difference whether your team wins or not

Mesmers are debuffs i belive.
Meaning their anti-caster.
So id imagine their good agaisnt casters.
Warriors might be able to bring them down realy fast though?
