Bottom line: cussing like that is unprofessional.... even if the audience is drunk. But others and kids have access to that video at all times and will see and hear how not to act. Poor role modeling for a President of SOE.

Nicely put. I think constuctively though Smed should take a look at peers and not just peers in the gaming industry, but peers that are setting a great example and are succesful. His arrogance here is due to the hype EQNext has along with the Sony backing. Right now Sony is rolling on all cylinders. Don't let it go to your head.....Smed

Cause now video game developers are lumped in with sports stars, etc. as role models?  This is a bunch of fucking bullshit about fucking nothing here.  Am I a bad role model now because a child might read this?  Nope.  Maybe I'm biased due to living in Baltimore, but kids have heard the word fuck by age 5 at the latest here and no one gives a fuck.

Any one mind posting a link to the video of last night? Particularly his presentation where he supposedly says FUCK excessively? Sounds quite entertaining.
  • MagKilnMagKiln Member Posts: 46

I watch almost all of the feed and believe he said Fuck 2 times? Correct? He may have said some later that I missed.

Might just be a Maryland thing, my Boss cusses like no-ones business no matter where he is, as does just about everyone else I know.

I think the thing to remember here is...

    1) Vegas (adult playground atmosphere)

    2) Convention (let your hair down atmosphere)

This isn't a presentation to the board. Will kids perhaps see this? yep, but it's your responsibility as a parent, to police or give your children the freedom to experience, to make that call. I'm sure there will be plenty more "professional" settings that are more to your taste.

Context and setting is key here.

I have to agree OP. I think there was some very unprofessional behavior going on there especially having a young girl come up there and emberassing her in front of everyone worldwide. Also the fact that people in chat were saying rude things shows how sad the gaming community itself has gotten. People think they are funny by putting other people down and they get a high out of it and then wonder why we have suicide and school shootings. So many bullies and coming from all age groups...

Might have something to do with taking away peoples backbones with all this PC BS we've had going on for the last decade. We don't prepare ourselves for this type of shit any longer.

Are you seriously even remotely even in the most convoluted way suggesting that a few small jokes or Fucks in a fan filled convention are in someway, some far off place or parallel dimension leading to teenage suicide? you're just reaching.

Edit: If we're going to just throw far flung speculation out here. then I would like to argue that teenage suicide due to teasing and whatnot is more the fault of over protective parents who shelter their kids so much that at the first encounter of something that hurts their fragile little egos is what pushes them over the edge

Excellent post, the girl incident caught my eye as well, and even though they gave her free stuff, they treated her like trash.

Also I can't believe how many people are coming onto these forums this minute and defending this behavior. Testimony to the mentality of those around us I suppose. It's unfortunate. It makes no sense to stick your necks out to defend behavior that is clearly wrong.  The main idea here is that they simply could have done without embarrasing young girl, and without swearing.

I get what you are saying but I think any grown adult should have enough maturity to know that somebody that young is more sensitive and should take a little more caution in what they say. Innocence is a beautiful thing that is now laughed at, beaten on, and taken as something not important now days. I know I sound old but so many people are so desensitized and brutal that they are losing their humanity and becoming the very monsters we make up in movies and games.

What we'll do next time he does a speech is get together some donations have you dress up in cosplay and when he says bad words you can run out from behind some curtains with a wood axe screaming "Dirty-bird! Dirty-bird!", while you chase him around.

"I understand that if I hear any more words come pouring out of your **** mouth, Ill have to eat every fucking chicken in this room."

I understand if you were never in that situation and never have been through being constantly bullied, literally beaten up on a regular basis both physically and verbally and then have to go home to a parent or parents that also bully you but believe it or not living a life like that brings young people to a point of hopelessness and thoughts of suicide. I've worked with youth like that for some time. Your idea of it always being the parents fault for being sheltered is hardly the case with youth I've worked with also. Don't pretend to know if you've not been through it. People that say that kind of crap are always the first ones to think they know everything about it and don't have a clue using words like "fragile little egos" etc is proof of that.

Regardless I went way off topic and for that I apologize.

First you need to realize that people feel differently about this type of stuff (swearing) and do not take offense to it, second this has nothing to do with their moral fiber.

It's called professionalism. It has nothing to do with moral fiber...

I agree people feel differently about it, but it certainly does have to do with their moral fiber. It's not the prime indicator, but it is an indicator nevertheless.

Actually, if you want to take the time out to get a larger view of society, the rate of bullying, teen suicides, school shootings, etc is almost perfectly proportional to the fact that you can't beat some sense into your kids without getting jail time these days. It's the morality police on their high horses that created all these laws to protect their pussy children, but on the social level that backfired. Back in my day if you got bullied, you'd get called out after school, kick the guys ass or get yours beat, then call it a day. Now if you do the same thing you're practically courtmarshalled even if you were the party getting bullied. I'd have snapped and gunned down my neighborhood too if I was disallowed to defend myself. If you're gonna get punished no matter what, might as well take some people with ya.
