I hope you aren't one of those who were expecting a FF open world PvP game. I dont need to take a scientific poll to realize a small segment of the gaming world wants that.  EQ Next is going for the entire pie.  Camelot Unchained is in developement?  , unless of course Marc Jacobs has disappeared with his box full of ducks.

it would be silly of them not to have even one server that was full pvp just so they can see what happens i know id role that realm.

Actually, you do have to take a scientific poll before I - and many others - will accept your assertion about who does and who doesn't 'want that'.

I am sure that more information will come out during the break-out sessions (panels) and over the next weeks and months.  One thing is certain though, PVP is not the primary focus of the game.  If it was I am sure they would have spent some time talking about it instead of just a cursory nod to PVP.

It was a brief presentation of a game still early in development. Did you really expect him to lay out the details of their pvp system? They haven't even shown us all the classes yet.

I think it's safe to assume if SOE trusts players enough to assist in the actual development of the game via EQN Landmark, then they also trust we're mature enough to handle an in depth pvp system. All will be revealed in time.

A PvP server would still be PvP with no rewards.  We need an asset destruction/territory control server where PvP actually means something.  But that has to be built from the ground up and I just don't see that in EQN.  I'm disheartened about the PvP, but oh well I come to expect that from devs because they have become greedy instead of building a niche game.

The only way I would have been satisfied with the PvP is if it was one of their 4 pillars.  PvP in EQN will again be an add on to the game, and not the central point to the game.

My conclusion from the little I know....player vs player.....faction vs faction conflict is not a significant element being considered in the games development. I'm disappointed.I don't care how may bells and whistles the game has...faction vs faction conflict must be in any game i will play long term.

They gave a "cursory" nod to pretty much everything since it was a broad overview presentation. We know as little about the pve in EQN as we do about the pvp at this point. Relax.

forget it. It's another mass market title with some fancy tech, but definitely no sandbox MMO.

Well good luck sharing the same type of audience again and again with the other three dozens of  similiar titles.

Look mobs even telegraph their attacks! Boy how exciting!

No territory control no player driven world, bore fest, no money from me.

You're joking right?  Almost everything they talked about was about PvE as in Player vs the environment.  PvE is not about raiding alone.  The whole way they were developing classes is PvE; the way they were fighting the mobs is PvE.  There was one brief sentence that was mentioned about player vs player.

I will have to try out the game because, hey it's free, but I'm not thinking about getting into it long term unless they have some guild vs guild asset destruction.

Minecraft is not sandbox when it comes to mmoRPGs.  The historical definition of a sandbox mmoRPG was always about PvP, which is why so many PvP player thought this could be the holy grail of PvP games.  I agree with you Doc, that this is nothing like a traditional mmoRPG sandbox.

Yes EQN has some great tools that players can destroy or build with, but those tools don't make a sandbox alone.  Without the ability to kill other players there is no sandbox.

PvP has never been of any significance in the EQ franchise. Looks like that is one of the few things not changing with EQN.

did you guys really think a game this massive in the making would actually go for a more niche audience? SOE is going for broke and putting a lot of money into this game.

that should have told you right then and there that PVP will not be FFA and open world, they might have servers that have FFA open world PVP but it will not be the core ruleset.

Did you miss the part about em not caring for balance ? Pvp in that game would be a constant whine fest.

I must have watched a different video. I never saw a thing that pointed to no PvP.

Yep. Final proof for me that Smed can't be trusted. Btw looks like the only "sandbox"  building part is the separate app EQ Landmark. Double deception FTW

Given that what we saw today was a tech demo, I think the factional PVP crowd should actually be psyched.

All the tech seems to point toward large scale PVP battles:

    * Low poly models, to allow maximum number of characters on the screen

    * Destructible environments for the best castle sieges imaginable

    * No vertical progression so no player is excluded from battling
