Dilema - 1.0 character or new?

AntipathyAntipathy Member UncommonPosts: 1,362

Hi,

I played 1.0 but didn't get a great distance into it.  My highest levels were Marauder at 18, Smithing at 19, pugilist at 11, and several crafts in the 12-14 range. It's been so long - I now have no attachment to my old character.

So now I'm debating - when open beta starts, do I start a brand new character or continue with my old one?

A fresh start feels emotionally attractive. But continuing my old character will give me a nice head start, and save me a few evenings worth of play.

Does anyone know what happens with pre-existing characters and the story quest? Do they start it from the beginning?

One option may be to play my old character, but with a brand new class.

Any opinions? Is anyone in a similar situation?

If you go back to that old character, you're going to be on a server with people who have every class leveled to 50, and with an economy that will be run by people with millions more gil than you have. If you don't have 50s, I would start fresh.

I'm in the exact same situation.

I'm starting all over; going to treat ARR like a new game. I want to see all the story lines and class quests from the beginning, so no need for me to rush to end levels.

    To each their own though.

Pretty sure you are reset to 0 if you don't have anything past 20 or something (at least your adventuring classes).

So if all you are in it for is a head start, you might take that into consideration.  However you don't HAVE to choose one or the other, your character will be on a legacy server you can see what you have available to it and then make a choice.

Personally I recommend legacy servers to anyone not interested in a fresh start (to try and manipulate the early economy etc.).  Reason being that you have great communities there to welcome you, whereas on new servers there is likely to be a lot more wishy washy players who might quit in a couple of months with FC/LS that fall apart because of it.

Also I find fresh MMORPG economies to be terrible unless you are the one manipulating them (which requires near 24/7 cutthroat play).

Also as to the myth that all Legacy players have all 50's it was only like 15-20% who had multiple 50's towards the end of  1.0.  I have all 50's, and a lot of "hardcore" players have all 50's but we are not the majority.  We just played since launch, played a lot, and did all content.

I only leveled them all to get the crown that was Best in Slot for a period during Moogle King runs as an Archer, if it weren't for that I wouldn't have bothered.

I wouldn't want to play a game and start in the middle/towards the end of the levels, I played 1.0 but i'm gonna start afresh on a non legacy server so i can live the journey from the start :) Just my two pence.

I know how most responses are like why continue your 1.0 character just start new but all these posters don't realize that with 1.0 character most of us have Gobbuue mount and many other event items gathered the 2 years we played.

About someone saying he wants to experience all the quests you can do them with your 1.0 character also you can level the new class/jobs.

Everyone with 1.0 character can choose to remake their character as they wish and keep the progress by the way.

You should check and make sure your email on the account page is correct, and if all else fails contact support.  Everyone else got one (though there were some problems with some people's emails like there always is due to filtering etc.)

The character wipe for beta already happened.

This thread is referencing those who had characters in 1.0, which can be carried over and played on "Legacy" servers.  There are 10 Legacy servers and 25 new (fresh start) servers at the moment.  New players can create character on any server they wish, including "Legacy servers", however if 1.0 players wish to continue using their 1.0 characters they have to play on their "Legacy" server.

When you guys are referring to "1.0" are you referring to the original FFXIV (pre-ARR)?

IMO, thats not the kind of head start you want.  Take your time, enjoy the NEW game.  Start from scratch.  Its not a race to endgame, unless you want it to be.

I've decided to start fresh on a new server. Since it's pretty much a fresh new game, why miss all the fun on your way to the top? :)
