I wasn't impressed. I love the vision, but its just GW 2.5. I would of preferred something else.
In fact Smed just put up 2 fingers to all his loyal EQ/EQ2 players who have kept both of them games alive for a decade. This game was only named Everquest to generate hype it has nothing that resembles either game and naming it EQ is a slap in the face to the original. All they're doing is dragging the IP through the mud to try and lure the masses to play it instead of making a game his customers wanted.
He want's to attract new customers fine, but don't use Everquest to do it.

Seriously?
yes,seriously
Yeah that whole 'lack of levels and quests' thing makes it sound very themepark-ish to me.
Oh wait, no it doesn't.
Guess The Secret World is a sandbox now too huh? Oh wait..........
The Secret World has both levels and quests.....
You said EQNext lacks levels and quests and iIt does not lack quests, it has them. And the Secret World does not have levels, that's what I was referring to. Get your facts straight on the games you're spouting info off about.
i loved eq1 and i'm happy as a pig in crap at the reveal. BMQ said he thought eq folks would like it, he didnt say it was a clone of eq.
and to the its a themepark crowd.
themepark is not a noun meaning "that thing i dont like". themepark represents a style of game, typified by wow, where the developers set up content to be consumed in a loosely prescribed fashion (in the same way consumers at 6-flags consume the content of THAT themepark by walking from ride to ride and riding them.)
this is not what was described at the infodump of soe live. in the game described in soe live, the players (consumers) have an active say vis a vis the environment around them, to the extent that the norrath of one server might be different than on another server because of the community's actions. this is anathema to themeparks; imagine 6-flags hosting "build a coaster day".
we call the above consumer generated content or, in gaming terms a sandbox.
