I'd say a 2014 release date is optimistic, but not impossible.
Judging by the state of the game as shown, it is in pre-production or in the very early stages of development. I'd expect a mid-2014 release for Landmark and late 2014/early 2015 release for the game itself. I also expect a very prolonged closed beta for Landmark, since it is a huge novelty and risky proposition. This can easily drag out, however.
Didn't they say they were one year into development by now? 3-4 years of development sounds about right for a game with completely new technology.
Originally posted by TheJoda .....plain and simple we got lied to again by SOE, smed whatever. Game aint anywhere close to being done by years end like stated. This was SOE last chance with me after all their fuk ups, and now turning EQ into WoW 2.0.....good luck all, i just hope Trion gets their head out of their asses and gets AA done.
I'm still trying to find where and what SOE/Smedley lied about in regards to EQN. People keep claiming it, but no one has any evidence other than their own assumptions about what Sony's statements meant. In the end, it sounds like you lied to yourself.
They stated it was sandbox, true
They stated we would have some form of EQN by the end of 2013, true
They stated it would be innovative (matter of opinion), true in regards to the destructible world, player involvement with development, improved use of the PhysX engine, etc...
They stated they would unveil it at SOE Live this year, true
Never have I read anywhere they stated the game was x% complete.
Far too often I see people claiming companies have lied to them, but yet it always seems to be misperceptions/assumptions on the posters end about blanket statements given.
Cheers!

1. i didn't read his response as a need for drama, just an indication that they weren't anywhere near ready to start talking numbers yet. which would seem to indicate a longer waiting period than most of us imagined. and yes i think its a good idea to keep a wrap on things. frankly, if the game doesn't come out by next summer i would consider even the current reveal to be too much too soon.
2. also, they have taken beta apps for Landmark and the game. that's all they've said. it could very well be that they use the applications for both processes when the time comes. which means they don't have to launch a game beta for quite some time if they so choose. im sure they hope Landmark will be enough of a distraction and time killer for folks to not notice the wait and as well to become invested in the mechanics of the game that will be available in Landmark.
If you didn't wanna cause drama you shouldn't have typed slave labor.
