Everquest Next is and isn't a game folks...

KuanshuKuanshu Member Posts: 272

Everquest Next isn't Everquest 3 or Everquest One Redux; This is a sign of the times (i.e. Minecraft isn't just around for amusement folks) and this is game is for the youth of our era and as much as this is the age of illumination. Everquest released back in 1999 served its purpose then as much as Everquest Next will serve its purpose in these times. So many of us spent alot of time playing Everquest or even Everquest 2 as it was an escape, an adventure, a social environment, an alternate reality, etc...We felt we had more control in these worlds, much unlike our existences. I really feel the main reason I am so interested, enthusiastic, and intrigued is mainly motivated by the fact my daughter is 6 and bless her heart she really enjoys minecraft and creating and building yet it isn't social and even though I got her a nice tablet last christmas I really feel for her generation as I am part of generation x and we were introduced to technology, yet are these just games or is something else going on in the long run. I have played many notable MMORPGs up until I just couldn't put up with the grind anymore (roughly 2009). I could go on and on here though I am really trying to empathize with ya'll yet what ya'll need to really consider is we are a part of something wonderful, yet it involves and affects all of us, yet we are the ones we have been waiting for...everything isn't as it seems and well to make this short and sweet: Enjoy every moment in ways that are beyond words, even whilst you immersive yourself in an alternate reality of sorts (i.e. Everquest Next/Landmark) and get over all the negativity as there is alot more giong on here then you realize...and Everquest Next isn't just a game...

The devs themselves always like to say that EQ next is more of a virtual world than a just a mmo game.

And the return of that phrase (Virtual World) is something I've been waiting for, for a long time now.

This, and for those lambasting it for not being mature enough I for one am glad. They are designing a game for every age and that is good.

I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

SecondLife is the closest I have seen to a virtual world. The ability to also do other things beyond "lifey" type things, like drive shoot and make RPG's was good. The issue was that the quality of them couldn't be held high on the servers and it only got worse in my experience as time went on.

I like the idea of a game where combat isn't necessary. I don't think any upcoming titles match this bill. That isn't to say that they have failed as I don't think that is what they are aiming for.

Yeah I'm excited for my kids as well (6, 7 and 8).  They all love Minecraft.  Especially my 6yo son.  You should see his "city" he built, with working doors and switches and all sorts of stuff.  Blows my mind.  I just know my kids will love EQ Next and I plan to make sure they can play Landmark as soon as it's released also.

EQN is the EQ for the next generation. Sucks for the guys in the 15-30 yr old bracket that want some hyper realistic blood fest, but EQ has always been about bringing in people of all kinds. WoW I think did this even better and EQN is following.

Appeal to all demographics or just a portion of today's gamers, not hard to decide.

Seems some forget that gamers today come from all walks of life, genders, ages compared to the small demographic back in 1999.

EQ and especially WoW are the only games that I've seen many parents and children playing together. While most "children" are teens/twenties, it is still pretty dang cool.
