I'm quite happy to see the statistics leaning in favour of enjoying the new looks or neutral compared to the lower margins of dislikes. Although this is one board, I would suspect a wider scale poll to have the same sort of ratios. I also like how the original poster did not write the answers one sided (IE: yes I like them because I am mentally challenged).
The game shows great promise, only time will tell if it actually delivers something worthy of being the next Everquest.
The models are top notch.... I bet you the screen shot people are throwing around of Black Gold look pretty but how does it animate? Can the face emote well? Can they move through the world naturally?

You can naturally double jump? And it's Black Desert by the way, not Black Gold - 2 different games. By the way the animations do look natural, but I'm sure you will have something to say about it since pretty much every post I've seen has been a fanboi post from you, either calling everything about this game perfect or calling anyone who has something not perfect to say about the game a troll. So who is the real troll in that scenario?
and yet somehow the Disney toons of this game didn't bother me. I'm a bit mystified as to why I don't hate the art style but I just dont. The Kerra they showed looked stupid, but nothing that sliders and options couldn't fix. The armor on that cat was ridiculous, but I imagine there will be other looks than the ten-foot-plate style.
The human female character charmed me with her Disney princess looks and expressive features.
I'm not against "cartoony" graphics and do enjoy them, WoW is still my longest played MMO at 4,5 years played but I dunno EQN just seems to take it a bit slightly to far character model wise, it looks a bit too.. happy? environments looks great though.
In the end though it's not enough to turn me off so I suppose I'll vote neutral.
i don't mind cartoony graphics, but eq next looks too disney/cartoony for me. everything about the game looks good, the character models on the other hand need to change. they should look a tad more realistic. i saw the elf, the human and the kerran and they are currently no good.
didn't smedley say that we would be able to change the direction they are going? if that is true, then it actually may happen.
The fact that this type of thread receives a negative minority vote on this topic says it all. Accept that you are a minority. Opinions are all fine but stop acting as if this game objectively has graphical issues. It does not.
The graphics are fine - move on folks there is nothing to see.
Opinions are fine and all, but stop acting as if this game objectively has good graphics. It does not.
The graphics are unattractive - move on folks there is nothing to see here.
You are missing the point: I am not trying to make anything change claiming that something is objectively bad/wrong - you people are. And hence your diatribe falls flat on its face.
If you do not like the graphics - buy something else.
You are totally missing the point here: I don't care if you like this game and think it's objectively awesome - you and people like you clearly do. Which is why you trying to tell other people that their OPINIONis wrong is laughable to say the least.
If you like the graphics - buy the game, but quit complaining about other people who don't like the graphics.

that is a good point and that is something i keep thinking about as well. yeah i hate the cartoony models for an everquest game but the facial expressions and SOEmote may not have been able to work with top notch realistic graphics (i am not sure though).
what i want to know is, if a player is using SOEmote and they are stoned, will their character have a stoned looking expression on their face? that would be hilarious to see a bunch of stoned looking characters running around late at night when the stoners are out and about
Game looks great. Which apparently the majority agree. Who was it that said they need to do this as a round table and we would see a massive turn out of at least 60+% of people saying they didnt like it? Hmm as of my posting, that does to see to be the case.
now would I mind if they made the characters faces (because let's be honest that's what most of the complaints are about) more realistic? I wouldn't mind as long as they looked good.
I just cannot stand the art style they chose for this game, its even worse than SW;TOR's which is saying something, if there was a redeeming feature to overcome this handicap, im not yet aware of it. If they then base the game around a cash shop thats as bad as the one in Planetside 2, then that handicap could well become an insurmountable hurdle in its path.
unless crafting is absolutely kick ass - hard, deep, meaningful and crafted gear/items are "better" than anything that can be aquired through other means (including cash shop) then i will be a gold member - but since this is unlikely, FTP at best
Even if most people don't mind the new art style, they still made a mistake going for it. Should they have chosen a neutral art style as in previous games, nobody would have had a problem with that.
It's pretty clear their decision alienates a significant portion of their fan base.

I would think the best way to solve this is put it up for vote at the round table, my only theory as to why they would not do this is because it would impede the countless hours spent on creating the models and thus having to scrap everything and delay the game even longer.
I would love for them to put a poll up on their round-table, like you I can't see them doing it for just these reasons. They have probably fully committed themselves to this "style".

I agree with you 100% I think they were just plain shilling to the WoW fanbois, trying to appeal to them. A very foolish thing to do... Looks like they're more interested in being WoW2, then EQ3!
Art style itself usually doesn't bother me. I care primarily about consistency and quality execution. There are some execution issues with the animations that already bug me in the demo videos. However, if I can return to a 15ish (EQ) year old game and play it for more than a month with its ridiculous issues that have not been addressed in over 10 years, I'm sure any possible issues with the graphics will not bother me. Gameplay, gameplay, gameplay! This is what really matters.
Forever looking for employment. Life is rather dull without it.

im a 22 year old white american and i'd rather watch a Hiyao Miyazaki cartoon or avatar the last air bender rather than a live action film or tv series. cartoon style doesn't have to mean a 7 year old audience. it just depends on the world outlook of the audience. besides, it seems that they will have more options than purely cartoon textures and meshes, so you should be fine.

Actually, forum polls never mean anything.
If you'd studied statistics you'd know that forum polls are too easy to manipulate. If Sony wanted to sample gamers opinions in a scientific way, they'd do it randomly, and not through gaming forums which attract certain types of gamers, and people with agendas.

If Sony wanted to redeem themselves they could do it by having two graphic sets. The existing one for children and another more realistic for RPG'er.

Your right and as we all know, Smedley has always had a boner for WoW graphics and trying to topple that game with his new EQ vision. We all know he did take some part in the destruction of SWG and now its EQ turn.
If this was a Disney game using one of Disney's IP's, I would say SOE hit the bulls eye and did a banging job. Since this game is called "Everquest Next", it's using the Everquest IP, I fully expected this game to look and feel more like the Everquest universe that I've known since 1999 from EQ1 through EQ2. This game as is right now, does not look, feel, or play like Everquest. SOE needs to just use a different name then I'll feel better about it. And while they're at it, make us a real Everquest 3.
Oh and I only have problems with character models, I have no issues with environment or NPC graphics. I've played Planetside 2 heavily and I know how beautiful environment and particle effects are with the Forgelight engine. I'm totally fine with them getting creative with landscape, environment, and NPC's. But the character models...that's personal. I already have beef with EQ1's Luclin character models, something SOE failed to update even though EQ1 is SOE's cashcow. I really didn't want them to disappoint me with character models in their new game.

Actually all polls are extremely easy to manipulate. It is all about how you ask the questions.
If SOE cared about its fan base in general what they would have done is a general questionnaire sent out to all the accounts on their other games, such as EQ, EQ2, or Vanguard. Since these are most likely the people who will have interest in there next game. Appeal to the fans you have before looking for new customers, is a good rule of business. Large companies today have a bad habit of taking their current customers for granted on the conquest for new ones, assuming the old ones will follow along regardless of what they do.
Personally I like discussing these larger topics, but had little to no interest in this game. I do however greatly thank them for giving me so much forum entertainment the past couple of days.
The human models have grown on me it seems. Still not a huge fan of the exaggerated body parts but I can live with it and will probably still enjoy the game. I'm still mad at the Kerra though, it was one of the races I wanted to play and that just put me off.
Although I can deal with any character models if they manage to capture that charming fantasy look of EQ2. Being inside buildings always felt so cosy and warm. The colors, textures and lighting just worked so well.
If you remove any player models and such from EQ2 it's actually quite a beautiful world. Give it a modern facelift with the new engine and I think it'll please most people. It's not too realistic but not too stylized, in terms of environment design. Although we've yet to see any actual environments other than some PS2 brown mountains and some jungle trees, I just hope it doesn't look like firefall.
Hopefully the zones will have a more western fantasy theme rather than all these exotic locations. I want my big castles, pine forests stretching for miles, mountain ranges. Gimme more zones like Antonica and Thundering Steppes. It seems that the starting areas or those of low importance always get these type of areas but once you get to areas that matter they just become some obscure extreme fantasy environments.
I know most people here are discussing the characters but the world is far more important to me, as long as humans look like humans I can suck it up.
I don't mind stylized, there are lots of stylized games or comics out with very aesthetic, unique stylized art. I dislike the WoW-meets-Free-Realms-Kids-Look of the NPC/player chars of EQN a lot though. The landscape is fine, but the chars ...
Maybe I'm getting old but ... seriously? All happy looking, nice and candy coated and exaggerated proportions? Where are we, cuddle bunny world making sure no corners are too sharp to cut your poor fingers?
Played: Pretty much any fantasy MMO, some did not even make it to release ... Favorites: UO, EQ2, Vanguard, Wurm Online, Salem, ESO, Creativerse Playing: ESO, Creativerse, Guild Wars 2 Anticipating: (sigh) ... maybe Ashes of Creation

for an everquest game i dislike very very much. this is the equivalent of TESO featuring cartoon graphics (if it did i should say).
its clear this game isn't being made for the everquest fans, this is something new all together designed to get new fans and for the ps4 gamers IMO.
that said, i am going to give it a fair shot, if its good enough i can learn to live with the graphics.
if this wasn't F2P i wouldn't be willing to give it that chance either, i don't think.
