not everybody is ready for free choices, free exploration, free levelling, evolution and continues changes: in practice for a virtual world set in a fantasy universe... the most are like sheeps which everyday, in or out the/a game, take orders from the boss/king and stop (themeparks)...EQN is opening the gate of the sheeps paddock and tells them: you are free...go, live your life as you want, don't be scared.
These sheeps normally don't have opinions or needs or questions therefore are confused. But now these sheeps can decide about their lifes and after a lot of time remembering at the box where they were closed, say: Beeh, beeh!!! (translation: NOT BAD AFTERALL)
P.S. sorry for the comparison mass people and sheeps, don't want to offend anybody, I talked in general because people are used to follow rules and to much liberty make them feel lost. (me too sometime)
Just take some more time to metabolize the innovative improvments...
Just because you don't have some symbolic number (levels) next to your name doesn't mean your character isn't getting more powerful. Your character still has new experiences and is able to affect the game world even without levels.
Pre -NGE SWG didn't have levels...and no one cared. You had titles, skills and gear.
I was the most well known Master Ranger on the Naritus server and I made millions of credits helping Jedi track down the rare mobs they needed for the Knight trials. I used those credits to fund my player city and upgrade my starships and so on.
I didn't give a crap about levels.
The essence of Sandbox gaming right here, you make your own goals and content in the game. There will be progression to gain more power but the but its not the sole purpose of playing. Interacting with the world and players and marking your own mark in game as a great hero or vile villain, becoming a great builder of cites or a greedy thief is all up to you as a player. You make your own story in game.
