They are definitely going to drop some kind of bombshell about PvP. The question is which camp will it hit.
Either the game was designed with PvP in mind(which I suspect), or they haven't even decided what to do about PvP yet.
They are clearly still making design decisions about the game, to some degree. Hence, why we'll see a ton of round table polls(already have 4 or 5). I get the impression they still have alot of major decisions left to make.
MMO's that are not entirely PvP oriented usually talk about pvp last because its one of those things where you first need to get pve combat down then kind of port it over to pvp. But I am usre will will here some general info about pvp soon.
This is one of the things that if it comes up in round table people better be sure to voice their opinions. Because if SOE cant say anything about pvp, that means over all pvp features like open world vs arenas vs battle grounds has yet to be decided.
i personally hope they keep with the no instancing policy even for pvp.
I wish they would take the route Asheron's Call took... and allow a person to /flag themselves as open world pvp - where other /flagged pvp'ers could fight open world. We called them "pinks" as their dot on the radar would become pink vs. the white dot of a PVE'r . They were unflaged on death, locking their corpse from looting. They could also do a quest and have their pink dot permanently change to "red" if they chose... and be /flagged all the time with full loot to the victor.
Of course the real PVP'er played on the Full Loot, Anywhere Anytime PVP server Darktide. Brutal place. I only played there after I had mastered the game.
Perhaps they are going to try a DAOC style three way PVP with a realm style area where you fight for your side and take over things/destroy others.
I just hope what pvp they do have has CONSEQUENCES and loss, pvp where you can never "lose" anything has no value, it might be fun at first but there's no sense of worth behind it in the long run, you enver fear dying and can just hap hazardly throw yourself at it.
I can't imagine they wouldn't take advantage of destructible environments and not have some type of world PvP with sieges and castles and stuff to destroy and take over.
Since there aren't levels and people will be on equal footing, I don't see PvP being popular. Who wants to PvP when your opponent can fight back right?
I dont think it'll be open world. Something about the way they talked about the wizard spires taking you to 'other' places hints to me that itll be a GW2 type PVP
I hope they co-locate players based on their play preference and segment them based on those same preferences or at least gate it with mechanics/zones.
I am a fan of PVP although OWPVP is awesome in my mind, but never pans out in reality because most people revert to kill first ask questions later. I can only imagine how horrible that is for players who dont like PVP...so I really hope they give specific servers with rulesets, flagging, or other ways for people to enjoy the game according to their own terms among people who also enjoy it.

They said there will be no instances and no zoning.
They hinted that the game will have something awesome because of the voxel engine.

They definitely did not rule out instances. I hope they don't go that route with pvp, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if we saw some CTF garbage. In fact, one of the devs hinted they will have many different pvp options. That could mean a million things, but it just made me cringe and think of instanced bgs along with other open world stuff.
Can you imagine if they incorporated diety based pvp into rallying calls? Where one diety has to defend and the other has to assault.
In theory the assaulters would win on some servers and the defenders on others. You'd have completely different worlds on every server, that would be amazing!

I dont mind losing gold or exp but not items. They've already stated they want to make a game accessible to everyone so based on that alone Full loot pvp has to be out of the question. I imagine a flagging system or a warzone where the 3 factions fight for control which the pvpers can kill each other even under ground.
I do like the sound of 3 factions based on the god you pick.

Think destructible castles etc
I meant pvp. I dont think itll be open world pvp. I think that there will be an island off the main continent where PVP happens. Doesnt have to be an instance, just way over yonder.

He was certainly enthusiastic, and why not ?
PVP in a fully destructible world will be epic !
Can't break down that city wall ? No problem, just mine under it !
And it also opens up awesome possibilities for building defenses and fortifications.
Add to that the need to gather resources (and stop others from gathering) so that you can build and they can't.
Notice how in the Lore panel they boiled down the deities into 3 classifications?
-Veeshan/Dragons
-The Four/Elementals
-The Seraphs/8 EQ Gods
Notice how they placed emphasis on player identification based upon animations/stance?
Conclusion?
Deity Based Open World PVP ala Sullen Zek Zerver.
Yes, now that I know how visceral and important PvP will be I am 100% more excited about the game.
Thought this will be full carebear mode themepark when they didn´t talk about PvP at the initial presentation

SOE May not be making EQN for you!

It would be Open World PvP ala Vanilla WoW, me thinks
Full loot ain't going to happen (unless there are 2 different servers with different rulesets, PvE and PvP)
Since there aren't levels and people will be on equal footing, I don't see PvP being popular. Who wants to PvP when your opponent can fight back right?

If players want to spend the next week or more in the hospital, sure it's a great idea. Violence would solve this little problem.

There won´t be different ruleset servers that is waaaay too oldschool and people would go for least resistance mode again- lame...

Didn't they already say they will have a siege system, or am I dreaming?

Did you also notice how strong his reaction was to the question about being able to destroy other people's stuff ?
He became quite pissed and replied: "We are NOT intending to build a game for griefers !"
Right after that answer he realised how harsh he sounded and actually apologized to the guy who asked the question.
I think it's pretty clear that PVE and PVP will be totally separated.
