I feel like apologizing about everything I said for the graphics of Everquest Next.
I was never attracted to EQ or EQ2 or Vanguard so today I downloaded all of them to see how they look compared to EQN and what I saw was awful graphics and combat. After the awful experience of previous SOE games I can strongly say EQN looks very nice and I will give it a try when it comes out to test the new features they are using.
One thing remains bad though and that's the no healing/tank roles and I'm hoping they will change their mind about that.

EQ1 is 15 years old and only had one GFX update for the player characters. Many wanted to keep the original as the style was more atractive even though the polygon count was far less. Many use imagination to add to their player's looks.

No it is not. Clearly you have some issues.
And i played both of them (and many more) and it was never realistic style. It simply lacked style (eq1) and Eq2 had plastic style. Never liked it either. I would like to mention here i DONT like a truly cartoony style either like in WoW, Wildstar or Free realms..
But Eq Next is not cartoony, its highly stylized high color style. Just look at Bioshock Infinite. Those two games have almost identical art style and latest Bioshock was one of the best looking games this year.

Oh it is cartoony or at least to me as well.
Give a good look again, apparently it's giving off that Free Realms, Pixar meets WOW, GW2 vibe. I know many may not agree, but the game looks to happy and bright. And they must redo that Kerran race, wtf was SOE thinking.
I think people are making some unnecessary connections between the tactical roles and the traditional DIKU-style mechanics those roles have used.
The devs never said there wouldn't be tanking and healing roles in group combat. They said that the simplistic, traditional "taunt-tank + tank-focused healer" MECHANIC will no longer work to fill any of those roles, because the mobs are now 'intelligent agents' (to use the comp-science buzzword). Old mobs were simple triggered and scripted objects that simulated an AI. These mobs will actually have decision engines that can do threat assessment. (If everything works as they plan...)
Think of the role 'trilogy' as being Offense, Defense, and Support. The mechanics to accomplish those can be... anything. It just has to work against an intelligent agent. The best recent examples are the tank and healer classes of the various factions in WAR. (And yeah... I'm real partial to the Warrior Priest/Desciple of Khaine melee-healers and the Chaos Chosen tank. Black Ork was cool too. )
